Hi,

I am from Mauritius, a tiny island in the Indian ocean. Am 25 yrs old and a degree holder in Accounting with Is.

Am currently working in a bank. Job stability is good. But am not working in a position where a degree holder should have been. But pretty satisfied with the working conditions. But the main hic is the salary, not being paid enough.

I have a relatively a good life, good family background quite an easy mode of living. I have everything here.

The counterpart, i have tried to see in some years how i will be here. It looks dull and boring. Mauritius can't offer much because it is limited. That's not the way i want to live. Am feeling suffocated and want new things which is impossible to get here.

I have already applied for a PR and it might take a lil more than a year to get it. I wanna go and start my life afresh. I had been with a girl and it did not work out. An escape route for me!!!! Am very fluent in English and French, might prove useful in Quebec,,

After hearing my story, wanna your opinion, should i move to Ca?? But in my mind its all clear...am coming !!

thx

I think if you are satisfied, why would you leave? Canada is not some magical place, things are expensive and the weather can be horrible. Many young university graduates have a hard time finding a job in their field and have to take lower positions.

In terms of accounting, for a CA Articling position (needed to become a Chartered Accountant in Canada), we get something like 400-500 applications for one opening!

I find it heartbreaking having to see so many students who can't get jobs, students with degrees from Canadian Universities. It makes me sad and question our immigration system, why are we giving jobs to foreign grads and international students when our own can't get jobs?

Good luck.

Do not migrate solely for certain reasons. You will become more frustrated in the end.
You should have strong reasons and belief which will enable you to sail through the hardships of immigration.

You might be looking at only certain sides of the cube in Mauritius - feeling bad based on current experiences and future
You might be looking at only certain sides of the cube in Canada - feeling good based on imagination, assumption and hope

Escape!
Yes, I know about it.
I wanted to escape from the society, the people around me and the system.
There is no escape from the earth except the final event.

I only migrated to Canada because all my cousins are in the US - software guys.
I could not afford an education but wanted to "come up" in life so I thought Canada.

Please think twice, talk to people living here

Hi guys,

Thanks for your replies, highly appreciated.

I have already have the mindset what i will be facing over there. I know it will be the hard way, mentally am ready, but living the experience is another phase i admit.

Here it is beautiful and everything. A lil paradise on earth, but not mine.

I want to achieve something but its almost impossible to reach that level. I am from a high middle class working family. My parents have achieved very well but for me i will struggle, i know it. Struggle for peanuts????

There will be many hurdles, i reckon, but i will find my way like i always do.

I have nothing to loose here except my family and the thousands miles that will separate us. About Mauritius i will be to come here once am settled, i want to have options in life. Here its ain't possible. Recently i went to the UK, i realized that my passport has no bargain value.

And above all that, more and more i have the feeling the island is not made for me.

Maybe am wrong, maybe life will be like a horror movie BUT and the end of the day i will make it. Am a survivor.

Better i do something and regret it and and not do anything and regret it !!!!

The officer at the desk held me for like 2 hours. They were asking silly questions, as if am a thief coming to UK. In fact they were thinking i was coming there as a tourist and trying to stay there illegally, just for the sake that i was like 22 and was not working, and Mauritius is not as big to be seen on the map. To be a Mauritian has ain't got any value and if ever you are traveling they always think you will land up as an illegal immigrant.

One thing that has been constantly on my mind,

for me to build a house, i will need to take a loan.
for me to travel, i need to take a loan.
for me to live, my monthly wages will be just enough.
for me to buy a car, once in every 10 years.
if i have a kid, i will have to think twice before spending.
for me to buy a pizza, my day pay is gone in that.
to make a saving impossible, now i can because my mom n dad are here.
am well educated, but you earn peanuts.
the way i want to live, i don't get it here. Sea n sun is not for me, rather big cities and fast life.
for missing family i will do surely, but here it was supposed to be very family bonding, more n more people are coming personal.

what will i miss in Mauritius????

No matter what i will do in canada, i will be in a place that i will be good and can afford a pizza !!!!

So you're just coming to Canada for a passport? I see this attitude among a lot of people. They see the Canadian passport as a travel aide which will help them go to various places. I feel Canada is handing out its passport too cheaply and easily, cheapening Canadian Citizenship.

Why not stay in your own country and help improve it? Unless there is war or famine, or ethnic conflict, why would you want to leave it? Just for Pizza? Seems rather silly. If you stay in your own country you will contribute to its growth and development.

Trust me man, most Canadians feel we are letting in way too many people for us to cope with. I don't blame the immigrants, I blame our government.

For the pizza thing it was just a pictorial display, how things are here!!! Its not about a pizza, it about the standard of living.

To get the Canadian passport why not??? Don't tell me any person willing to immigrate don't want that !!!

I am not sure that indulging the rants of someone young and unsatisfied with his life is a good thing, but here goes my two cents:

I have a US Passport, for most countries that is equivalent to a Canadian Passport (for travel purposes). I gave up my life in the States for my daughter and I to be a family with my new husband and step-son. I left behind all furniture and personal belongings, family, etc... My quality of life here is no greater or lesser here than it was there... the only difference is the joy of finally being united as a family. There are many struggles involved in changing your country of residence. There is a reason PR and border crossing is not granted to whimsical youth. Be satisfied with what you have, it does not sound so bad. You have the support of your family and are not suffering hardships. You are not separated from the ones you love the most. The hardships you befall are those created in your head from the inability to accept your present life as satisfying. It is great to want for more, but as was already stated... the grass is not greener on the other side. Every country has its problems, positives, negatives, etc... Harsh weather is not all you will face here.

I have a college education from the States and must take challenging exams to prove that here. I must pay for these exams. I work for a company in the States, earn income in USD, will be paying Canadian taxes for my "World Income". I came here with health insurance based in the States, a job that I could work from anywhere, and blessings from God beyond what I could have ever expected and I still face challenges that cause me to shed a few tears of frustration. I, however, accept that life, no matter where I live, is filled with challenges.

If you do get approved for PR in Canada, how is your life going to be better? Look in the mirror and you will see the source of your happiness. Happiness is a choice, one you must make regardless of where you live. I say this considering you are not suffering in a third-world country at war.

Just my opinion. Good day to you.

If any one has a stern decision by himself then why to look for opinions from others. Unanimous suggestions are rare on an open discussion forum. The person who has an unstable plan for future could seek assistance or guidance from others.
