Hello all,

Here's my situation.

I will be satisfied residency requirements this coming November.

My passport expired last December and ever since then I haven't extended my passport because I had not planned to go outside of Canada.

It seems passport is the only proof of residency. And if I have not had passport while I'm in Canada, would that cause any question to the immigration officer?

How can I prove that I have not left Canada during the period that I dont have passport?

You can apply with expired passport. There is no need to prove your residency after the passport is expired, as long as you don't cheat by having another passport (will be found out because CBSA can detect by your name and dob).
Remember to write an explanation letter that you didn't extend your passport when expired, to be enclosed with your application, otherwise it will be returned as incomplete.

Wrong. Having a passport or not doesn't mean you were or were not in Canada. You may have travelled using another passport-that's what they think-

Some lawyers that have cheating-service actually create some companies to help their clients get prove of work, payment slip, then help them to manage their credit card and bank account so they would have statements, so do bills, lease (found out by CIC : Many applicants have bills and lease contract in a same address), contracts, etc.
The best way to find out whether you were traveling or not, is from your passport. You can have 3 passports, but all 3 passports will be under the same name, because when you come back to Canada, you are using your PR card as a visa and your name must match the PR Card, also date of birth (dob).

Thanks for your input, BLT and Goldline.

So instead of passport, there's other documents I can provide.

I have lease agreement, bills, and pay slip during the period that I didn't have passport.

I'm working for one of major banks in Canada, so my pay slip might be considered as a legitimate document.

Well if one of the passports I have is from a country exempt from visa to Canada I can leave Canada through land border(no stamps when leaving) and come back with no visa no PR card and no stamp at all so nobody knows if I did cross the border or not. That's why I said passport is not a good prove of residency. In the above mentioned case one can still show them one of his passports and hide the one they actually used. Don't expect them to say this passport has no stamps so the applicant was in Canada all the time.

The only country you can travel to by land, is USA. There, the system is even better. They can find you even you used a different name. Consider you have another passport, same name, dob, but doesn't need a visa to enter Canada, your entry to USA would be recorded by US custom. Canada can get all the information easily, just by your name and dob.

It's better if you do not have any gaps without having a passport. When I went for my "interview" they did not like the fact that I had a gap of one year from when my passport expired to when my passport was renewed. It all depends on your personal situation. In my case I had never left Canada (not even for a day) so it was not a big deal.

My passport was expired in 2012, never extended it. I apply in 2014 with that expired passport. I don't know if this will become a problem in interview.

Having a passport issued to you outside of Canada is one thing CIC considers evidence you weren't living in Canada. I am not sure if they subscribe to the reverse logic though--having a passport issued to you in Canada (i.e from your country's Canadian embassy) is proof of living there. Of course, some countries do not issue passports from their Canadian embassies and require you to apply from their US embassy--go figure.
