Should I include a letter of explanation for applying for a study permit extension a second time?

It's an optional document so should I include it or not? Is the letter of enrollment and proof of financial means documents enough?

Are you renewing it because of your Passport expiry date or because your studies took longer than usual?

Then you should write a LoE explaining why you took longer than usual
Thank you so much for your reply! Not that I expect you to fully understand my situation or know what everyone's applications result is but do you personally think that there are chances of an extension getting refused? My reason is that I wasn't able to finish on time because I took less than 5 courses each semester and you normally need to take 5 if you want to finish in 4 years. If I can show that I only need one semester more to finish my degree requirements then do I need to write some long persuasive and eloquent letter or would that simple reason in a simple letter of explanation be enough?

Sure!
This is the first time I've seen a story like this to be honest. You're better off getting someone else's advice, all extensions I've seen are because of people failing classes or because of passport expiry dates..
But if I was in your shoes, I would write a letter explaining why I only took 4 courses instead of the recommended 5 per semester.
