Good day,

My Canadian friend invited me to spend my birthday in Canada as well as to tour the place. As I was going over the TRV form I noticed that in the marital status section they only have 'legally' separated' as an option. Thing is I have been separated from my (ex) husband since 2006. We dont have communication since then. I have no idea of his whereabouts nor his address or occupation. The last thing I heard about him is he already has a family (partner and child). By the way, we dont have children of our own nor a property to argue about as it was a whirlwind union.
I am currently a resident of Qatar (since 2008). I am confused which option to click on that form. I dont want to make mistake nor not be accurate about my statements. All i want is to enjoy this vacation and i dont want this matter to be questionable to immigration offier. My application has to be clear as we dont have embassy here therefore we have to send everything to Abu Dhabi embassy. Should i still declare I am married in this case? what should I write about his address and occupation? will it be a problem if I click legally separated? Or will it help if i click married and provide a written explanation about the situation as I have no idea what my ex have been doing since we separated. I dont want to be implicated later on for whatever things he had been doing especially for legal matters. Will really appreciate your prompt response. Thanks in advance.

I want to be on the safe side. I very much would like to be honest and state im separated but sadly they only have option as 'legally separated'. and legally i am not still. but to click 'married' and not know about the whereabouts of my ex, which i need to state on the application form, this makes me hesitate. wondering if it will affect my application or would be questioned by the visa officer. Please guys I need an accurate response. Will really appreciate it.

Does Qatar recognize legal separation? Do you have any type of separation agreement regarding joint property?

In my forms, because my state didn't recognize separation as a legal martial state, I had to declare myself "Married" when visiting my then boyfriend (now husband)! Talk about embarassing........... :(

hi amikety. Well i dont think its recognized here in Qatar. In my home country, Philippines, it is but when i asked my lawyer he said legal separation is no longer a popular option coz its the same tedious process in getting for annulment. I just recently started my annulment process (Philippines is the remaining country in the world without divorce). But it will take some time as I need to appear in court in Manila at least once and the problem is Im based here in Qatar. I only go to Manila for short vacation. Nway I guess the best way and convenient thing to do is to do what u did..declare im married. In my case I dont have any idea of whereabouts of my ex since we separated in 2006. So does this mean Ill just declare the last address and occupation I know of him in the form? U said you declare married in visiting your BF then (now your husband). Good thing the visa officer didnt question you on this matter.

I'm not an authority on immigration matters, but if you are only given two options you have to choose the one that most closely matches your LEGAL status. As you are still legally married that is your only choice, but you can include a cover letter to explain your situation. As you are not legally separated, it is not an option.
