Hello to all members ,

This is my first post on canadavisa.com forums & I have to say it is very informative.
My question is regarding whether I should enter into Express Entry pool with following profile or not.
Last month I took IELTS & here are my scores in each sections :

Reading - 6.5
Listening - 7.0
Writing - 7.5
Speaking - 7.5
-----------------
Overall - 7.0

Profile :
Age : 28 years
Occupation : Software Developer
Experience : 2.5 years in US
Education :
Masters in Computer & Information Science , USA (2 years)
Bachelors in Computer Engineering , India (4 Years)
IELTS : R-6.5,L-7.0,W-7.5,S-7.5

With such profile I am wondering should I enter into the Express Entry Pool or I should improve my IELTS scores first ?
I congratulate all the members who successfully immigrated to Canada.Looking forward to seeing few replies.

Thank you.

Use this tool: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/crs-tool.asp
or this grid: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/express-entry/grid-crs.asp
to calculate your score.
If it's below 480, you won't get an ITA any time soon. But once you create an EE profile, you can try for PNP.

Suggestion:- Better to increase your IELTS score to CLB 9 or CLB 10 then your score will be 469 with CLB 9 and 480+ with CLB 10

Profile :
Age : 28 years
Occupation : Software Developer
Experience : 2.5 years in US
Suggestion:- wait for 1 year then it will complete 3+ work experience.
Education :
Masters in Computer & Information Science , USA (2 years)
Bachelors in Computer Engineering , India (4 Years)

Would be best to get IELTS: L:8 R:7.5 W:7.5 S:8

Than you will have close to 480 CRS score and better possibility of getting ITA, you can apply for EE now, but book another IELTS to boost your score.

Hi Istari,vekant & volodyalysak,

Thank you so much for responding quickly guys.

I am going through the grid you have provided in the earlier post to calculate points. I am stuck on the one part of the grid where I feel I am not understanding it correctly. I would like to ask you guys if you can help me on that as well.

Here is that grid :

I tried to take snapshot of the image but forum keeps showing me the error that (Sorry, you are not allowed to post links.).
If you want to see the image please go to >>s1380.photobucket.com/user/new_start4/media/kk_zpsra0tzxgs.jpg.html

Grid section is

CRS – C. Skill transferability factors (Maximum 100 points for this section)
I do have CLB 7 or higher in all sections of IELTS after converting IELTS score to CLB.

So my question is am I eligible to add 25 points based on that ?

As per my profile I have 4 years of bachelors & 2 years of masters in computer science.

Thanks for the quick response.

I don't think so; Bachelor's + Master's is only 1 degree.

Thank you for this information.

Does that mean if I have two different degrees ? such as Bachelor's in xyz and Master's in abc degree ?

I did bachelor's in India in Computer Engineering but Master's in US in Computer & Information Science with 1 year gap working in India.

You need to get your degrees evaluated by WES or other educational credential evaluation agencies and get an ECA report which will state your Canadian Equivalency in the ECA report.

As pk910 says, it's impossible to say until you've had your ECA done.

But generally, a Master's from the US will be assessed as a Canadian Master's, which means that you will only have 1 degree.

I had similar questions about my degree before I created my EE profile. During the EE application, I only entered Master's degree and noted it was for 4 full years. This gave me all of the skills transferability points automatically. I didn't need to explain that the 4 years was actually 3 years for the bachelors, and 1 year for the masters, it just presumed it was.

Normally I would recommend you to just create the EE profile, however if you have not had your Master's sent for an ECA, you can't add it in the EE profile as it asks for the reference number. In this case, just use the tool linked by istari - that also only asks for your highest credential, which I think you can put as Masters. Also, see if you can find your degree on the free WES tool (search "WES free equivalency tool") and see if that helps.
