Should I apply coop work permit along with study permit extension?

I’m in a tough spot, I wish to apply for a study permit extension since my current one expires in April 2023. I have heard that if I apply for a coop work permit alongside it, it will take even more time to process than a study permit extension application since it might be processed as a work permit application instead. I want to get the study permit extension as soon as possible and then apply for a work permit since the study permit extension will at least let me travel outside of Canada around April (if it gets approved that is).

Please can someone guide me on this?
