Should he travel to Canada to look for LMO EMPLOYER ?

Hi

I am trying to help a friend find a job in Canada - He's Bangladeshi, 30 y/o ,been living and working legally in UK for past 5 years 9 ( night auditor/finance ass't) for major hotel chain . Good references. He has experience in food service etc also. Visa changes here in UK means he has to leave.

He has applied for lots of jobs on Canadian websites - no reply.

My question is this - is there any point in him going to Canada on a tourist visa to look for potential employer ( literally knocking on doors). Then return to UK and apply as temporary worker (Canadian employers seem to need workers but don't want to apply for LMOs - too much paperwork?) .

Does anyone have any experience of this or would it just be a waste of plane fare ? Any advice on best city to target would also be appreciated.Saskatoon seems god for hospitality jobs.

1. It is unlikely that he would get a TRV (visitor visa) to go to Canada to look for work.
2. In the unlikely event that the did get the visa and a job offer, the employer still has to advertise the position on the job bank for 2 weeks, and demonstrate to HRSDC that no Canadians/PR available when s/he applies for the LMO.

Yes - it can be difficult to obtain a TRV.

TRVs are for those who wish to come to Canada as visitors only, have no plans to stay long term and can demonstrate strong ties to their home country.

Someone who is Bangladeshi but is living temporarily in the UK will have trouble showing strong ties since he doesn't have permanent residency status in the UK (and is no longer living in Bangladesh). CIC will likely suspect he wants to stay in Canada long term and refuse him on this basis.
