Hi,

I have a PR status, and have lived in Canada for the past 4 years, and currently am residing in Canada.

I will be going on vacation to the US this weekend for a duration of 9 days.

I recently lost my PR card, and did not have time to renew it before leaving on this trip/
A PR card renewal online says it can take 92 days - 6 months, and so I know I will not receive it prior to my travelling.

Also, I looked at getting a PRTD but 9 days will not be enough time to apply for one once I am in the US.

I was wondering if there was anything I could do while I am still in Canada in order to allow my re-entry to the country once I am back from vacation.

If not, would it be possible to re-enter the country with my passport + confirmation of PR letter + Ontario issued Health Card + Proof of Student Enrollment + Employment Pay Stub + even my lease?

Important Note: My passport is an Austrian Passport.

Please let me know as soon as possible, as I will be travelling soon!

I know I have posted here before but I am getting nervous before my travels, and would just like to get any last minute info if possible.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

If you go by private vehicle you'll be fine with your passport and your CoPR (& expired PR card).

I would apply for a new PR card anyways and, if you get asked by the officer about the expired card you can tell him / her that you already applied for a new card.

Relax :)

I knew I was forgetting one detail :(.

I'm going to be flying there and back. Does that bring up more issues? I've read on here that the trouble I may face is being able to board a plane on my return flight?

Not sure about that...

The leniency period is soon over but some Airlines might want to see either a TD or a PR card. You should look up the information on the Airlines website.

Alles Gute!

:)

I checked out that website already and it does say Austrian Passports need an eTA to travel to Canada, however since I have permanent residency I am not able to apply for the eTA :(.

So that leaves me a little stuck.

Ill be travelling with American Airlines however I can't seem to find any info on this topic :(.

Sorry if this may be a silly question, but what is the leniency period?

Thanks for all the help so far!

Danke! :D

I don't think they will be strictly enforcing the eTA rule until the fall so you should be ok flying back on your Austrian passport.

The reason I brought this up is that yes, you're a PR: with a visa exempt passport and not eligible for the eTA. That might be a good thing in your case 'cause at this point your passport might be enough to board the plane back home to Canada.

The lienency period seems to be a period where people have / had enough time to get used to the change ---> visitors need to apply for eTA, PR's need a PR card or a TD. New rules are in effect from September 29th/2016 on.

As keesio says you're probably fine.

Still, you should apply for a new PR card sooner than later 'cause life happens.

Safe travels!
