I am going to do a short landing next week. I am currently in the US.
Have a couple of questions. Kindly help me with the info -

1. How much money can we bring to Canada during landing and later?
As I said, I will be doing a short landing. Will be in Canada for a week and will be finally moving at the end of this year or early next year. How do I manage to bring money with such a setting? Can I bring in money later? Will the money transferred from US to Canadian bank account be taxed if I do it later?

2. I am going to land at Billy Bishop Toronto around 10 pm. Would I be able to sign up for PR card and SIN at the airport that late?

Kindly help me know.

1. You can bring as much or as little as you want. If you are only bringing money for a week, then better have your proof of funds with you, i.e. bank statement.
2. You won't be able to get your SIN at city airport, even if you arrive during the day. There's no Service Canada facility there. Go to any Service Canada office while you are in Toronto.

Thank you very much!

Let me ask my question in more detail -

I will be bringing around 2k CAD in cash and will have around 80k CAD shown as proof in US bank account. How much money do I need to declare that I am carrying during my landing? 80K? or 2K?

I want to understand the tax implications of bringing/importing money during first landing and later.
After my short landing, I will be moving permanently to Canada by next year and will have around 80K CAD in my US account, would I be able to transfer money from the US to Canadian bank account without getting taxed at that time?

Cash or cash equivalent of CAD$10K or above needs to be declared. If you are only carrying 2K then no need to declare anything. I suggest you bring bank statement just in case CBSA asks for proof of funds you used in your application.

I don't think you'll be taxed transferring money from your own account. But I'm not an accountant so don't take my word for it. Consult with a tax professional if you are concerned.
