Hello Friends

I will be doing a short landing in October and I`m bit confuse about this residency status and 183 days rules :-\

During this time, I planing to do my DL and get my PR card 8). I will return to my country and move permanently next year

SO the question is:

If someone lives in Canada for a month or so during the tax year, does he still have to declare his world income to CRA?

Cheers

if you don't have any ties to canada, the you are a non resident for tax purpose....u don't have to file taxes with cra unless u have canadian source income

Thanks paras1991

During the month where i will stay in Canada, I will be renting an apartment (Airbnb). Is this considered as tie ? Do I have to declare my world income for the month I stayed in Canada?

Cheers

No.

Thanks Zardos :D

CRA looks at multiple factors and ties to decide upon that. In your case, it is unlikely that they will treat you as resident for tax purposes. If you can live without it, do not apply for Canada DL (most of the provinces allow you to drive for up to 30 days on foreign license).

Also, check if Canada has a tax treaty with your home country where you are considered resident for 2016. In general tie-breaker rules will ensure that you are not treated as Canada resident for tax purposes for this short trip.
