Shipping personal stuff from the UK

Can anyone help me please? I would love to ship some of my own furniture over to Canada, some sofas and a table and chairs as they are sentimental. Can this be done easily? I have a quote from a company and they are willing to do it from the UK. I am going over very soon and will be on a visitor visa for the time being.

How does Customs work? Will I have to pay duty on used furniture? What If I had it delivered in my partner's name to his house? The cost is reasonable however if we had to pay duty it would make it very expensive and not worth it.

Do not do this before you have PR, because as a visitor you can cause yourself a whole lot of problems.
