Finally I finished my landing at Carway today and I want to say thank you to everyone who is sharing their experience here and answer my questions I had. I also wish everybody good luck if you are still on the processing.

Here is my landing experience at Carway and the overall I would say: NOT SO GOOD!

I arrived at border today around 1 pm. I drove to the U.S office, and got a refusal letter since I don't have an US VISA. Then I drove back to Canada site; brought all the documents of mine and went in to the office. One of the officer there saw me in the office and I told him that I am here just for the immigration landing and showed him my passport & CoPR. Then he asked me following questions:

1> Officer:" What is your current status in Canada and where is the document?" Then I handed in my work permit, he asked where are other documents? I said I didn't bring them and he told me I need to handed in all of them when next time I enter Canada.

2> Officer:" When is the last time you get arrest?", I said never.

3> Officer:" When is the last time you were asked to leave Canada?" I said never.

4> Officer:" How many times you have been refused to enter to other Country?" I said I never got refused before. Then he asked me did you get a refusal letter from US site just now? I suddenly realized it and said yes. Then he said " You should think about the question I just asked" I asked him:" Does it count? Cause I just come here for landing?" he said:" it is what it is! And this refusal letter will be recorded for your entire life."

5> Officer:" Can I see your driver's license?" and then he asked my previous living address.

6> Finally he asked if everything on the CoPR is accurate, and I said yes. He said it will take 3 hours to wait. I was shocked. I thought it would only take half an hour. Then he said:" We only have 3 officers here and see how many people in the waiting room. If you think today is slow, you can come tomorrow." Then I said sure I will wait.

I headed to the waiting room and approximately 15 people were waiting there. I started to wait and after about 2 hours waiting, finally one officer called my name. I felt really lucky because there were 4 people waited before me and they were still waiting.

Anyways, I successfully landed and got my PR. I don't know if any one has similar experience as mine. If you do, please share. Thanks!

Congrats on your landing,

Looks like the officer wanted to give you some hard time! And 2 hours?! That is one busy border mate!

OK one thing I am certain of, for sure, is that the refusal letter at the US border is being documented but it has no official influence on your next trips to anywhere. I've done flag polling 4 times, trust me I know what I am talking about.

Looks to me that the officer wasn't in a good mood, otherwise you would have had a much better landing experience.

Well you made it at last, and that is what counts. Now you will receive your PR card, and when you touch that card you will forget all about you've gone through.

Again happy for you, and have a brilliant life in Canada mate.

Regards,

Thanks for the report. I'm hoping to have to 'land' in Carway within the next month. I crossed at that border post during the summer for the Going to the Sun Road and it was crazy busy.

Looks like I have a good excuse to spend a night in Waterton so I can do the border run nice and early in the morning.

Congratulations!

Haha so jealous you got there before the snow started. This weekend has been mad.
My ECAS just updated again, so someone is obviously looking at my application. I figure I'll have decision made next week and then do the border run the weekend after.

Good excuse to go boarding at Great Falls. All the best!

Big mistake to talk back to an officer.

Congratulations! Thanks for the feedback. I am heading to Carway this week and hope it all goes well!

Congrats KAMEC!!

+1 for sharing your experience :) ;D

Guys , I have a question About #3.

One of my extension of my work permit was rejected and the letter said i had 90 days to extend my permit or to leave to country.
I left the country after 3 weeks after seeing my options.

Does this count as ""asked to leave Canada?" ??

Thank you guys
Cheers,
Varun

Not really....nothing wrong with correcting if something is wrong or asking for clarification.

There is a difference between "correcting if something is wrong or asking for clarification" and "talking back".

In this case OP talked back to an officer that already was with an attitude.

I don't get the impression that he was talking back. Sounds more like the situation was a bit stressful and they were a little confused. Easily understandable, especially when the officer is a grump.

@vark:
I would mention it as part of giving full disclosure, but I can't see it being a problem. I can't imagine that situation is something that he is looking for.

Haha. Just saw these comments and I guess you guys think too much. Just a clarification and no attitude for me/officer. This kind of conversion won't affect the process at all.

Thanks arowberry,

Yes, I will certainly disclose all my information. I did even mention this in the Letter that i submitted along with the application package.
Even i guess it should not be a problem. :D ..

Anyways hope for the best ;D

Think I'll try Coutts when mine comes through, don't want to be stressed out after a 6 hour drive to the border :)

I have done work permit and furniture / goods receiving at both Edmonton and Calgary airports and I must say the CBSA at both locations were excellent. Did their job properly but were happy, friendly and gave some good advice to us. No attitude or bad vibes from them (or me :P)

Maybe you caught them on a bad day. Anyway, congratulations on your landing ;D
