Better still, why not talk about non contract phones.
That way the costs don't get out of control.

Hi,

Yes, exactly. So why not you start the discussion?

Hi,

Thank you so much. Really very informative. Now, I am sure I need only a basic pre-paid (without contract) phone at least during my studies time.

Absolutely correct choice for students initially. Some of the telecom operators also offer cheap/free long distance calls to India with add-on plans.

I have always been amazed that anyone would offer a three year contract, with the penalty fees for early cancellation it is too much of a lock in.

In quebec they passed a law to make life a bit more sensible. http://www.cbc.ca/news/technology/story/2009/06/17/quebec-cellphones.html

The last time I looked, there are only a few countries in the world with worse cell phone rates and prices than Canada.

Most contracts in Canada for voice and data seem to average out at a yearly cost of $1300 (after all the extras are added) - it is rare for customers to end up paying the advertised rate.

thnx alot man...tht was realy helpfull

Check this link: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/technology/gadgets-and-gear/hugh-thompson/what-is-a-fair-price-for-internet-service/article1890596/print/

Average price is about $30-$50. But then it will also depend on number of users as the cost might be divided among that many number of users.

royal and lovely , if i take a room on non sharing basis.. just for me.. than what amount i would have to pay per month in cad as internet charges on an average basis... would it still be 20 cad per month or more...

Most likely it will depend upon your usage. Most of the packages come with some limit, average price of good 6 mbps speed net with 250 gb limit would be around $30 (ontario).
