As long as it is a legally binding marriage, it should be accepted. Take a lot of pictures, especially with anyone who attends with you. Also, keep any receipts that you have from after wedding dinner, flight tickets, etc.

Marriage certificates
  • For spousal sponsorships, make sure you include a valid marriage certificate or proof of registration of your marriage with your application (see checklist details). The document(s) you submit must show that the marriage was legally registered with the government where it took place.
  • A record of solemnization (obtained in Canada) or marriage license will not be accepted as proof that the sponsor and applicant are married.
  • Check the country specific requirements to see if there are specific instructions for the country where the marriage took place.

It will be important to show that you have been n a relationship for 5 years before leaving for Canada because it looks like you have been separated for 2 years and you are not having a large traditional marriage. Make sure you keep all pictures and records of contact from when you were together in person and when you were in Canada.

When you are saying that you are in relationship, what exactly do you mean? Before you left for Canada did you just date or you actually lived together?
