I and my wife are having immigration issues in the USA so we are exploring possibilities with Canadian immigration. I am looking for answers for very simple questions for the same.

Some information about us: We are both Indian citizens currently in NJ.

1) If we apply for the it today. How long it is going to take to actually get PR for Canada? Would apprciate the steps. i.e application sent, receipt notice takes how many days, then what happens, then what happens after that...etc etc?

2) Once we get the PR for Canada, can we travel and visit the US as often and as long we want for? What kind of restrictions are in place to maintain Canadian PR? Are there limitations on how often we can visit USA and limitation on number of days we can live here with respect to USA immigration and Canadian immigration laws?

3) Once we get PR for Canada, can we work in USA? Do we need any kind of permits to do so? What are the procedures? How easy it is?

4) Is there any way to expedite the whole PR process?

5) Is this something you can apply for yourself or you need an attorney? How much does attorney cost usually for this?

6) What will be the total cost of getting the PR?

7) Does the processing time depend on how much points you have, or your current location or something else?

What I realize, You want to get Canadian PR just because later you can go back to USA? ( I apologize if its not correct ) then why Canada like Mid-man only? try to remain in US and arrange issues. One applicant whose real intention is not Canada may delay procedures and processing 10 applicants who really want to settle down in Canada. Just personal advise, its not offense. Now come to your questions, I will try to answer from my personal knowledge only, wait for replies from other seniors as well.

1) If we apply for the it today. How long it is going to take to actually get PR for Canada? Would apprciate the steps. i.e application sent, receipt notice takes how many days, then what happens, then what happens after that...etc etc?

- First step, application to Sydney will take between 2-3 months, could be short or long, depends... once eligibility review completed at Sydney.... Local visa office should take 6-12 months, according new rules... no one can give you guarantee of time. Check trackitt.com for time lines.

PR is Canadian PR only, nothing to do with USA, still you need to apply for appropriate visa, it may advantage some thing as being PR of Canada, but it wont make you USA visa free.

3) Once we get PR for Canada, can we work in USA? Do we need any kind of permits to do so? What are the procedures? How easy it is?

Same as above.

4) Is there any way to expedite the whole PR process?

First make sure your occupation is under 38, then try to get a AEO ( approved job offer from Canadian employer which is verified/ approved by HRSDC ) , that would expedite process, but many cases it didn't make any difference. Again not sure answer.

5) Is this something you can apply for yourself or you need an attorney? How much does attorney cost usually for this?

All depends to you, all the forms and step by step guides are available on CIC official website. Still you need attorney... they have different charges, try to contact MR. DAVID, lawyer and owner of this forum, best value towards financial matters as well professionalism.

6) What will be the total cost of getting the PR?

No idea for your particular situation. Depends how many family members are applying, are you going to apply yourself or via lawyer. Cost varies.

7) Does the processing time depend on how much points you have, or your current location or something else?

Nothing, one you are eligible and you file got approved, depend on standard procedures and time.
