Several points of confusion with online renewal process

I have a few questions I hope I can get help on.

1’I started my application on September 27th, but having broken my foot just last week, I am extremely restricted for a few weeks. So that means I can’t get my photos taken for a bit. On the R.O. page, I had already filled in my period of assessment as Sep 27th. (I thought I had to fill this in to proceed further.) It may be as late as November before I can get to the point of submitting the application Is there a way to change the dates On the assessment period? It’s greyed out and I can’t click on it.

2) Payment receipt print out. If we are submitting online, can we simply take a screen shot and submit that? Or do we actually have to print it out, scan and make a pdf of it?

3) Is the R.O. Page the last page of the application ? I ask because at the bottom it says “complete amd return to application” and it takes me back to the main page where it says status “in progress” and under actions it says “edit”. When I go back into the application, on the “immigration history” page, all those questions are no longer marked. I have gone back SEVERAL times and answered no to all of them, except #3.5 which I left blank as that doesn’t pertain to me as I’ve never had a travel document other than my PR card. Any idea what I’m doing wrong?

4) I have worked for the same employer for well over 5 years. Am I supposed to just give them a start date of exactly 5 years from date of application? Or is it ok to give them the true start date of employment, which goes back several years?

I believe that the payment receipt would be in pdf format when you received it from IRCC. Otherwise, when you try print, doesn't your computer have an option to save it as a pdf file instead (so that you don't need to print it out, scan and make a pdf) or you don't have the software converting the screenshot to a pdf file instead?

I was hoping they would provide a PDF version. I haven’t paid yet and am doing things from my iPad since I can’t currently sit at my desktop, due to my injury. I didn’t want to pay and then have a problem after the fact. Thank you for your input on that question.

Why not simply defer the renewal application until you are ready?

1. You do not need to apply today...even if your PR Card has expired, or will be expiring soon. If you are planning to travel via a commercial carrier (on your return to Canada) you would need a valid PR Card or PRTD (unless you are a U.S. passport holder). Otherwise, just apply when you have everything ready to submit.

2. I suspect the latter is your better option.

3. Could simply be `yet another' of the myriad glitches that people have experienced with the online renewal. Submitting a paper application might be better (assuming they are still being accepted).

4. The application only asks for the 5 year window. You can certainly go beyond that if you choose, but it's not required.

Thank you for your suggestions Ponga.

I have been considering doing a hard copy version instead, if I am allowed to do so. This weird glitch is not giving me confidence that it is going to submit properly or at all.

My Card doesn’t expire until mid-January. My hope was to submit it in time to get it approved before it expires. I like to have peace of mind in case I have to make an emergency trip. I don’t want to have to scramble last minute to get an emergency travel document f I don’t have to.

I am probably better off to wait until I can independently get around before tacking this anymore.

Does anyone know if we need “special permission“ to send our PR renewal by mail? Their wording of “If you cannot apply online and need accommodations, you can apply by paper” leads me to believe that if I am having technical problems which make me to not be able to apply online, then it should be okay to just send by mail. But does anyone know for certain?

No special permission needed, as shown here:
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/new-immigrants/pr-card/how-to-apply.html

`You can apply on paper if you can’t apply online and need accommodations, including for accessibility.'

The `accommodation' is that you are having trouble applying online, right?
