Thank you for your response! You've been waiting even longer than us, I hope it comes through very soon for you. I know exactly how you feel, every day waiting and hoping for some positive news.My wife’s file is with the London Visa Office also. We applied in June 2020. It really feels depressing sometimes especially since we decided that she should stay abroad (I am a Canadian citizen who moved back to Canada in September 2020 after 17 years overseas) where she is able to practice her profession while we wait. We have been married 15 years. At the time, we thought it might take 6-8 months.
Throughout this period we have been living with the uncertainty of “any moment now” and “it could still take a long time.” With all that is happening in the world, it has taken a mental toll on us- fortunately I moved back to Canada in my late 40’s- I shudder to think what it might have been like being separated from my wife in my 60’s.
The only encouraging news I can offer is that London does respond within a few days if you have an active file with them. Try emailing them at LDNIMMIGRATION@international.gc.ca. At the very least someone will know you a still out there.
I got to sympathize too with the officers. It appears that the government expects them to perform magic by setting lofty immigration goals without providing them the necessary resources. To paraphrase Joseph Stalin- a single backlogged immigration file is a tragedy. 1.8 million backlogged immigration files is a statistic.
Hey guys. I got background check completed April 28, 2022 which was the final stage. I also got passport request on May 2, 2022.I am sept 2020 applicant... No update since feb 2021....my medical hasbeen expired last month
It can be sent back even if you have the XF number (once it drops the X it won't be returned). But that is relatively uncommon.
Don't know what you mean by shady.
Which Visa office? Do you know what stage is your file? Have you been able to check Ecas?

I can relate your frustration and stress level as my self 2019 applicants still waiting for PPR. Some days I thought about writing angry email to IRCC, VO or OPM but then I release it will fell into deaf ear. Hang in there friend
