September 2019 - Citizenship Applicants

This is frustrating. While I am happy for fellow applicants that their files are being processed, I am sad that there is no update on mine. I guess Ottawa office is slowest in the country.:(

This forum has been really helpful for me but I also share the frustration that people have. I recently called IRCC and was told that my application is being processed by the Halifax office and the two notes that have been included in my file according to what I was told are "all background clearance is complete, test ready". Please don't get me wrong, I was delighted to hear that on the phone, finally being able to talk to an agent on my 7th try. However, I still haven't gotten a test request and Halifax office gets a relatively smaller number of applications compared to other larger cities. Not to mention that when I was going through my PR process I waited for 2 months for them to give me an appointment for landing and after hearing how backlogged they were I ended up driving to a border. I don't know if anyone is in the same place but I don't know what else to do other than just hope and wait and check emails and the mailbox endlessly everyday. I hope we'll hear some good news really soon.
 
Hey everyone. Kindly find my timeline below:

  1. Arrived in Canada - September 2, 2016
  2. Applied for Citizenship with family (3)- September 15, 2019
  3. Application Received - September 19, 2019.
  4. Correspondence acknowledging receipt of application(s), and a study book called Discover Canada sent - December 6, 2019
  5. Start of processing - January 30, 2020.
  6. Notice to appear for test sent - February 12, 2020
  7. Test Date - March 2, 2020
  8. Took the oath and became Canadian citizens on March 3, 2020.

Look, it all depends.
IN my case my PR took more than the promised 6 months, took eight. I was almost pulling my hairs out because I had to renew my WP at the time. But the main thing here, is always do all you can do and wait. For example, I never wait to have my landing. I got my documents, my passports and drove to the border the next day (it was a two day drive).
For the citizenship is the same, you can be lucky or not; but always be in top of what the ask for.

I just called CIC today for my application as I am asking whether my application is consider as non-routine since I changed my name legally in Canada.
Also, they verified me that my local office processing is Mississauga and they said I passed the background check. Is there anyone know how long does it take more if it passed the background check already?

Going by the history of Mississauga office, it would take 7-8 months for the test invite.

I understand that the decisions are circumstantial. However, what I was trying to point out is that once you go through one bad experience it stays with you. My PR took 10 months, and I was in the top 1% with my overall score. My PR experience was beyond stressful to say the least, my application got stalled without any fault of my own. When it was finally time to do the landing, Trump administration had just started and I was advised not to drive to the border because of my nationality and occupation. So I don't appreciate your false accusations on not having tried everything. When you're writing comments please be mindful that people might be going through obstacles that may not be applying to you. Also, be mindful that IRCC is known to ask for things beyond everyone's expectations, so this is not a game of being on top of things.

So if you are asking me how much is much, then I would say every quarter.

Also, to your point around Military service. in my note above, I did mention, it is only "one of the factors, based on my conversation with friends who are in the same boat."

There can be lots of IFs and BUTs. Anyways, all the best.

Just FYI. Over 20 trips in the first couple of years of residence. Got a test invite within the normal timeline (appr 40 days after IP). My point is that when things are clear and can be logically explained then it should not take much more than the usual timeline. It is when there are things that pop out it might take longer than usual. Good luck to all!
