Hello All,
Does anyone know how long the Oath Ceremony takes? I'm tentatively scheduled for it at 1:30 in the afternoon late next week in Vancouver (provided I pass the test earlier that day***fingers crossed***). I'm in the Interior and decided to use my last bit of Air Miles to fly, rather than have to drive 5-6 hours each way (gas prices are so high!!) and get a hotel for at least one night. I would like to book the 4pm flight back to Kelowna rather than the next flight at 7:30 but have no idea if allowing an hour for the ceremony is enough time?
On a side note to those thinking of or needing to move after applying, be sure and make sure you can get your new ids set up in your new province. I moved from AB to BC and then after I got here I found out that I could not get my drivers licence switched over because I have to have either an unexpired PR card or citizenship grant document as my primary or foundation id. Without the drivers license, I can't get my vehicle insurance and registration changed to BC and I can't enroll in the Medical Services Plan either. They won't accept the Confirmation of Landing document as they had a change in law last year. I asked the clerk if they realized that the PR card was a travel document and not required and she was quite surprised to know that as was CIC when I explained my problem. Due to the timing requirements for new residents, I had applied for a PR renewal card but this sort of an issue is not accepted as a reason for urgent processing for the card so I sent off a request to CIC as a last resort explaining the id problem and got a call a few weeks later that if I could come to Vancouver and take the test (and pass!), I could take the test in the morning and Oath after lunch.
The PR card was sent almost four weeks ago, but has never arrived and I can't claim it as lost until the first week of April but that is after the time requirement for me to get my BC id and vehicle switched over so now I will be studying the Discover Canada book even more so that I can do the test and oath and then get my BC id and car stuff done right away.
Sorry for the lengthy post, but I could use some help on the Oath ceremony question and thought my unexpected id issues after moving might be helpful to some.
Warm regards to all
