You thought bureaucracy would end with citizenship? Just look at what you need for a passport lol. 2 References letters. Am I back at grad school/?
it is not really that bad. when i got my first passport about 20 years ago, it had to be either a doctor or a lawyer who could be your guarantor and they needed one for each application! for the last a few years, they have this short renewal where as long as you have a valid passport (or one that did not expire more than a year ago), it is just a 2 page application. and only one reference i think.. when i got married and my last name changed, i had to do the formal one. still, it wasnt that bad. it is just 2 people who knew you for 2 years. and honestly, they didnt even call my references. now i got a 10 year passport! (it used to be only 5...)
plus it is soo much easier to travel with a canadian passport. my husband always gets questioned more and gets pulled aside for random checks. after we had a baby, and 2/3 people in family had canadian passport, it became less. hopefully, when he gets his passport, we will just fly through customs ! we travel a lot.
and not to mention, he wont need to get visa for every little thing! or wait for appointments and pay extra $$.
oh canada! my home and native land
