I am also seem to be behind most people who submitted in September, but that is mostly because my VO is slow! On ECAS, the Principal Applicant side still has not changed to In Process. We have 2 line, one that says they received the application, and one that they received the medicals.

We are in the same boat... 2 lines in ECAS. One saying App Received, and the other saying they have started processing.

How many Ottawa VO apps have background check changed to "in process"?

Us too!

I think it's only files that were transferred to Ottawa in September that are getting background checks so far

My husband and I applied in September, and today he was contacted about his medical, which he hadn't done yet.

My question is, if he lives in the US, could he come to Canada and do his exam here? If so, does anybody know how much fees are right now in Toronto?

I'm not sure if this has been asked before... there's so many posts and the whole process is so confusing :-[ Thanks in advance.

Also, I've been a bit confused about something. I was emailed last month about meeting the requirements for a sponsor, but my sponsorship application status still says In Process on the online services page. Does this mean I haven't been approved?

Mine's been in progress for about a week.

Yes, your husband can go to a certified doctor in Canada. The fees were about 250 CAD for me but you might be able to shop around and get a cheaper doctor. There are a lot of available doctors in Toronto. (I'm also American and did it in Toronto.) As for your status, are you talking about ECAS? ECAS is notorious for being out-of-date. It's not uncommon for the sponsor's side to stay "in progress" for a long time. If you received an email saying you were approved and saying the application was transferred (to Ottawa?) then you have been approved. Don't worry!

^ Thanks so much for the responses!

Yeah, I meant I already have every line on ECAS except "Your application has been approved" so I'll probably get a PPR or email about approval before it changes. Sorry for not being clear!

Can you please share whats lines your ECAS has? SA and PR both side please :)

I only have access to my ECAS so would love to see what updates you have there.

I'm sure it'll be okay. You probably just have a slower officer or something. : ) What sort of proof did you send, by the way?

I'm in the same boat sweethunkUSman. My app has been in process in Ottawa for over a month now and I sent a very small package, so I think it has to do with our officer unfortunately :/
I sent maybe 7pages of photos with 3 on each, a couple pages of texts from when we first met, and then photocopied some birthday/christmas/valentine day cards we wrote to each other. I also sent our lease(with both our names) and bank accounts to show we transfer each other money all the time.

I sent way less than the average, but it's quality stuff. Just hoping to hear something soon, since people who submitted theirs AFTER me have gotten background in process. :P

When I photocopied our package we clocked in at 300 pages for everything! i know i know, well i know now! i wasn't on this forum before filling it out

I sent: I wrote our story in a few pages, photos (75 with wedding and candids and family), notarized letters from our families, our first month of complete emails before we met up again for the first time after meeting overseas, gmail complete list of emails/hangouts (screen cap), samples of downloaded sms texts from each year since 2014 (we text like 8 times per day), our travel history (hubbie drives to canada every weekend since mid-2014), airplane trips. I think that's it. It added up! Plus the application forms and all official docs requested.

Okay new thread -- what are you guys most worried about re: circumstances of your application. Then we can help each other decide if we're over thinking...

I'll go, we have an age difference of 13 years, he's younger than me...
I won't have an official job until after I graduate from school in 2017...

eaforster, I sent about the same amount of stuff. About 12-15 pages of pictures (two pictures on each page), one text from 2013 when we started dating (we started dating by text...), one screenshot from skype in 2014 proving we were still intimate during our long distance relationship, and three airplane tickets showing we visited each other during that long distance time. I also scanned a bunch of congratulation cards my spouse's students made when they found out we were getting married. My pictures were mostly of me and my spouse's very very large family at family gatherings. We only took a single picture of our honeymoon (at Niagara... in February, the weather was really bad and it was super cold).

Hm, I do think they may look more closely at that age difference, but if you have sent ample evidence (and you have!) I'm sure it's fine. It's not like Canadians and Americans are still so stuck in tradition that such a relationship is impossible or unheard of. As for your job, I don't think that will matter at all. They aren't accepting people based on their job potentials; that's the economic immigration visa's role.

As for myself, I'm most worried about the fact my spouse has not yet met my parents. Due to the fact my spouse is currently in school for a masters degree, we haven't been able to get down to the States. My parents have talked to my spouse on Skype though, so it's not like they aren't aware I'm married or anything. (Plus, I didn't want to leave Canada for fear they wouldn't let me back in, which wouldn't affect my application but I want to continue living with my spouse.)

I think you sent substantial proof of a legitimate relationship..

We sent in a photobook. It seemed the only proper way to show 13 years of a relationship. I would say around 100 pages, numbers and labelled, in chronological order. The cover of the book also had 9 photos of us from different years ahahhaa yes we're both artists.

My biggest concern for the longest time was not having "enough funds" -- I'm currently on a teacher's salary, paying off student loans. That's pretty much it. I put the application on hold for a while because I couldn't muster up putting $0 in income after graduation in 2014 (I studied again to become a teacher)

After working for a year, I finally had "enough" to declare as a sponsor even if it is really still a small amount. After being approved as a sponsor, the only worry now that keeps bugging me is "Do they hate the photo book? Did I miss a signature? Do they hate the photobook?"

:P :P :P
