Hi All,

A few weeks ago, i finished my landing formalities for myself by visiting border near Detroit. My wife was in India at that time; we decided to do the formalities separately.

After completing the formalities, I came back to USA and am currently outside Canada. We were planning to land separately and apply for PR card. So, my wife is planning to visit Canada on 15th April, and wrap up her landing formality.

I was wondering whether this is allowed? Will I have to go to Canada along with her on a temporary travel document? Will they allow her to finish the landing formality on her own?

Any help will be much appreciated.

As far as I am aware, there is no requirement other than that the Principal Applicant must have already completed the landing procedures. You do not need to be in Canada, or with your wife, in order for her to complete the landing procedures as a dependent.

Thanks zardoz! This really helps in planning :)

Just checking though - if anyone has done this before, could you please confirm - we are cutting it too close to the visa expiration date. Can't afford to fly out and fly in.

Yes, I did the landing in Toronto with my daughter (being the Principal applicant) June 2013, while my husband followed and did his landing after a month in Vancouver.

Hi there,
The primary applicant should landing first and then others could landing any time before the visa expiration.

Thanks guys, then I guess I'll not travel with my wife again... too expensive to travel from India just for landing! Finding jobs in Canada has been a pain as well! :(

If you are currently in the US, why don't you just drive across the border and be in Canada when your wife arrives? If you are driving a private car (either your own or rented) across the US-Canada border, you don't need a PRTD. Just your COPR will do.

just be sure your dependants land before COPR expires
