Hello all,

I have a real dilemma now! I just got an email from the Seoul Visa Office. They requested:

"1. Official Documentary Evidence of Marriage from Canada or USA"

However, I already sent them a copy of my marriage certificate. My wife and I both live in Korea, and we got married here in Korea. I am from the US and my wife is from Canada. The copy we sent was accompanied by a certified translation since the certificate was in Korean. The really troubling part is that the email is asking for evidence of a marriage FROM CANADA OR USA?! What? We got married in Korea... I don't know what to do? Someone please advise.

Is the Seoul Visa Office saying that we also need proof that our marriage has been registered in the USA or Canada? If so, I did not know this was a requirement. If anyone has any experience with Korean marriage certificate requirements for Canadian Immigration, please give your take.

I think your guess is right, they are asking you the proof of marriage registration in USA or Canada. Since the foreign marriage is not recognized in Korea until you also register your marriage in Korea (within certain duration), I think, from Korean perspective, this rule is reversed to your home countries, US or Canada.
