Senior Members: need help on LMIA/ Work extension/ PR related questions

Hey guys! I need advice on my current situation here in canada.
I am a TFW with a two-year contract which will expire on the 15th of january 2016. My noc is 7452 (material handler). My employer has submitted a Lmia application for a supervisory position which was received by Service Canada on September. It is still on process and they have been asking for additional documents from my employer which in my part makes me worried and anxious as to the outcome.
My questions are: 1) what should i do before my current work permit expires?
2) can i still continue working on the same conditions even without a work permit? For how long?

Any inputs will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

There's really nothing you can do but wait and hope the LMIA is approved.

You can only continue working after your work permit expires if you have submitted a new work permit application BEFORE your old work permit expires. You can continue working until CIC makes a decision in your new work permit application.

So what did you do finally? I guess you were eligible for open work permit.
