Hi,

I got my PPR 3 weeks ago and i m planning to send my passports to CIC this week knowing that I live in USA right now.

Did anyone sent his passport from US to CPP-Ottawa recently? How did you get it back? should I pay for a prepaid envelope from FedEx or not ?!! please let me know your thoughts. Thx

In their email they stated the following statement:
" If you have a mailing address in Canada: To allow you to track your passports through the mail, we strongly recommend that you purchase two (2) PREPAID Canada Post Xpresspost envelopes (National), letter-sized (318 x 241 mm), at any Canada Post retail outlet.
- Complete the mailing label on one envelope showing your mailing address in the “Deliver To” field.
- Keep a tracking number sticker from each envelope.
- Fold and enclose the self-addressed envelope in the other envelope along with your passport(s) and a copy of this request letter.
We will not use registered mail or postage coupons. If you do not submit a return prepaid Xpresspost envelope or if you provide an envelope from any other courier, we will return your passport by regular mail

Here are my few cents...
- I sent our passports through Fedex overnight from US to CPP-O on Oct 7 th
- Changed address on my cic file to a canadian address where one of my wife's college mate lives.
- CPP-O confirmed that they will send our passports to the canadian address and our friend in canada will send them to us in US. I believe that's a pretty efficient way if you know someone already in canada.

I thank Edmontonbound sincerely for all his help and advice.

Hi Loftpop,

I am in same situation, could you tell me detail, later how you sent your passport to CPP-O from USA. In my case my attorney (in Montreal) recommended to send him passport first then he will forward them to CPP-O. But still I need to know how you manage courier and what services you used. I would appreciate if you send me detailed reply. By the way congrats. Thanks!

to viqaramjadmir:

I sent my passports via fedex and I got a prepaid Canadian Xpresspost envelope as required from amazon.com. I hope this answers your question.

Hi there, I am in the situation where you were; need to send passport to CPP-O. I managed to get an envelope from amazon.ca and was charged 14.94 CAD whereas Canada post charges roughly 24CAD, My question is: have you received your passport back and what was you charged for the envelop. Was wondering if the prepaid xpresspost usa envelop I received is legitimate. It has a section that asks for customer number and that is blank. Please suggest!!
