Sending passport from India to Ottawa, Canada

Hi All,

I have applied for PR from London, UK in the year Sep, 2007. Now CIC ask for my passport to submit all documents by MAIL to Ottawa in a single package by end of 2nd Nov, 2013.

I understand from the forum's that there are 3 ways

1st Way:
Getting the letter from the Passport officer from where our passport got issued and sending it CIC.
Issue: When i inquired at the passport office enquiry they don't know about the process and getting the permission from the passport officer is not so easy.

2nd Way:
Sending them with well known who are travelling to Canada with authorization letter. And ask them to submit by post.

3rd Way:
Travelling to Canada on a visiting visa and get stamped on myself.
Issue: Getting the visa and travelling to Canada in a month period is not easy for me.

I am opting for the 2nd way here.

I need few clarifications here please suggest me.

1) Do my friend need to send the MAIL to the CIC stating his name on the package or Mine?
2) They ask to send a prepaid envelop can i keep the international envelop giving my Indian address. They didn't mention the will not post the Indian passports direct to India.

As far i have read in this forum. ITs illegal to send Indian Passport overseas.. What CIC might want is for your to Travel and get it stamped...

Do check with CIC and exactly understand what they want you to do.. Better still fly and get this sorted.

What we have done in 2008.
Mailed with DHL (with the copy of the letter that CIC asking me to send the passport to them)

Option 2nd will work in your case. Send your passport, with authorization letter, with your friend to Canada. Your friend can mail passport once in Canada to Ottawa and receive the passport back at his address in Canada. Your friend may need to mail the authorization letter along with passport to Ottawa. Once your friend receives passport back at his address in Canada can bring back in person back to India. Do not opt for mailing passport from India to Canada or back from Canada to India. Have your friend as a messenger (travelling in person).

CIC ask me to send the Passports by Post/Courier. They have suggested to take 2 PREPAID Canada Post Xpresspost envelopes (National) to send the Passports returning them in another. But i want to use 1 PREPAID Canada Post Xpresspost envelopes (National) & 1 PREPAID Canada Post Xpresspost envelopes (International) so that i can get the passports directly from them. And i no where read that it is illegal.

Please suggest me.

Hi Prasanth
I read you thread about sending passport to Ottawa, Canada internationally... What did you do finally and have you got your passports back to yourself. Please share your experience. I am going to be in similar situation in future, and would like to know the way to send passports to Ottawa from outside Canada.

You can send passport from China to Canada, though.
