I checked in with HSBC Premier as was suggested but the fee per month is 28.00 and they said it's for people with 100,000+ dollars.

There are no fee with HSBC Premier if you maintain the balance ;D

Wow, guess everyone is rich huh? ::)

Thanks steaky! I'm going to look into this too

I had just asked about this a couple days ago at HSBC here in Vancouver for the very same reason, we wanted to have a joint account or an account that my partner and I could both access. She had mentioned the premiere account but you have to have a min. of $1000.00 in the account at all times and I was also told that we would not both be able to deposit to it, we would only be able to deposit to the account in the country the account is in so this defeated the whole idea because if I opened in Canada and he wanted to make a deposit it would need to be a wire transfer which is also costly.

We mainly use Ria money transfers, they is over a 100 locations in Vancouver alone and they are a wee bit cheaper than western union.

However seems to me there must be a better solution, I am still looking into it so if I came across anyother ideas I will post here :)

oops, missed some zeros on the min balance for HSBC, $100,000.00

I hope you guys can find something! we need to send money home to Mexico every month for child support once we relocate.

I didn't know that you couldn't deposit money into a Canadian bank account from Mexico! I learned that the hard way. I transfered all of my canadian funds from scotiabank in canada to our mexican scotiabank account and couldn't deposit any of it back in my Canadian bank! So ridiculous when it's the same bank name. :S Maybe one day they will make this easier for us :)

Paypal is such an easy idea but when the recipient doesn't know computers it makes it difficult.

I'll definitely check into the Ria money transfers option too! thanks for the idea :D

The reason is international Scotiabank's are no longer owned by Canada. Like in Jamaica, the scotiabank is a separate Scotiabank. I cannot move money between the 2.
