Hi,

Did any one send your copr back to ottawa for correction? I had to send it back for correcting my marital status. How long does it take to get the new copr? Please note that I had contacted cic about the error in copr and they replied me advising sending my copr back to them. They also gave a urgent code to quote while sending my copr. I have a planned vacation in july. I am really worried about how long it may take to get the new one. Any one having the same experience, please share your case. Thank you very much for you time.

I got my COPR and I need to get it changed from Single to Common-Law. How did you get this resolved? Where did you mail your COPR? How long did it take to rectify? Thanks

Hi, I emailed CIC with a urgent quote in the subject and they replied me in two weeks... They wanted me to send back my COPR with my marriage certificate and any proof of marital status. I also sent 2 copies of my photos..(they dint ask, but I sent since I know they already used photo in my old COPR, so they might need new..I didnt wana waste time nor taking a chance). Also they ask me to sent passport nack with the copr. I sent those they day i received their reply. Also make sure you sent with a self addressed envelope as they would use that tosend back your new copr.. i used express service canada post.. they recieved my old COPR with passport the next day... Guess what, that was their mistake, so they were very quick.. I gt my new copr with new immigrant visa after a week in my mailbox..

Really appreciate the response. I'm from a visa exempt country and am in Calgary. For common-law, do you think it would be ok to send a photo-copy of my common-law declaration instead of the original (only have the one original remaining as already sent original to CIC in September 2014)? I was going to send them a photocopy of my partner's passport as well. He is a Canadian citizen and is not accompanying me for PR. That's a good idea about the photos. I would be best getting new ones and including these with the returned copr (making sure they are dated and signed).

I've been trying to call CIC to find out which address I should mail back the COPR and documentation:
Not sure if it is:
P.O. Box 9780
Ottawa, K1G 4B9

or is it
219 Laurier Ave. West (also see 365 Laurier Ave. West)
Ottawa, K1A 1L1

You mentioned the urgent code to be included. Is that specific to use or is it used for these type of cases? I'm so glad that you received your corrected COPR quickly.

I tried calling CIC today but lines are busy.. I did email CIC and also put in a case specific query. I would rather the COPR is correct before doing a landing. Don't want to chance it at this stage.

Thanks again for the response.

Thanks. I used the 219 Laurier Ave one.. Do not use post box, it may delay your case. Another thing, please double check your previous envelope sent from them.. They use an address there.. you can also use that.. If CIC already replied to you in email about sending back your copr, they might give you a code to use while sending the envelope.. I got one.. Your case might be dffrnt and they might not give a code for you.. if not, ignore..

CIC lines are always busy. I tried calling since I had travel plan and wanted to get the new COPR quickly. CIC agents gave me three dffrnt advices.. and I think they dont know about this, since it is a very specific case.. So do not rely on what agents said..

Yes, it is always good to ask CIC.. no one wants any problem with papers while landing..

About the document, you can send the photocopy one.. but plz notarized it as a certified true copy by any registry... My wife is also a canadian citizen, i just sent her passport and citizenship certificate photo copy (certified true copy)

Best Luck!

Thanks again! The CIC lines are busy but I guess with Christmas break, everyone is trying to contact them!
Good idea re getting the copy notarized as a certified true copy, I'll do that as well.
Not sure about the code to be used. I think I will wait to speak to CIC first to see if I can include one before sending it away. But the 219 Laurier Ave West address is on the back of the envelope that I received with my COPR. I was also going to send by express post.
At least the expiry of my COPR is Nov 2016 so it gives me a bit of time. Just want to get this sorted so I can land.
Thanks again for your quick response.

I actually got through and spoke to an agent this afternoon. She sent me a link for 'Application for a Verification of Status or Replacement of an Immigration Document' and go in and complete the form 'request to amend the record of landing'. She said if I mark it 'urgent' that it should get processed faster (but that's if they consider it 'urgent'). I had already contacted cic last week to make an appointment for landing then realized the marital status should be corrected. The address on the email the agent sent me is different though -it's the Operations Support Centre in Ottawa. Anyway bit confused now. I will fill this form anyway and include everything you had mentioned before. But do you think it would be best just to send to 219 Laurier Avenue West instead? Of course, marking this as urgent.
