Send passports to Ottawa but currently on hold

I was reading the tracking update from Canada Post regarding our passports. It stated that:

2015/03/03 14:02 OTTAWA Item arrived at postal facility. Item on hold at recipient's request.

Is this hold up normal?

Where did you send your passport from ?? Did you call them to ask what this hold up was about ?

I mean did you send it from within Canada ?

P.S. you should contact them first as they are the one who can tell you exact reason.

I am guessing that recipient, CIC may have a big backlog of passports for processing and have asked Canada Post to hold new deliveries for some time. Both being government department, may have such co-operation agreement......CP should be able to clarify the hold.

I called CP and they really don't have a valid reason. They just told me that CIC representative goes to their post office to pick up the passports.

I guess waiting a few days would clarify the situation and if not then you should enquire with CP by an email.

This is an unique situation, though we sort of guess-know the reasons.

If it's been on hold for just one day, it's likely that CIC just didn't pick it up yet. Doesn't have to mean anything special beyond that.

That's basically is my question if this normal or what.

I haven't heard this though so as the question was posted.

Holding of passport at CP end of delivery is not normal.

(Who knows, it may have happened earlier and since many do not track the delivery, it may have gone un-noticed.)

Hi guys - I am in the same situation. My package was supposed to be delivered today (via Canada post expresspost) but the status says "Item on hold at recipient's request"... CP wasnt helpful and said they are not sure what that means and opened up a ticket to investigate.

FYI All - My package was finally delivered the next day. Apparently, Canada post brings the package to the CPC building and it goes on hold until the appropriate staff members from the CPC department comes to pick it up. This is the normal course of packages to CPC ottawa. I was given this info by a Canada Post customer service rep.
