Hi,

I am planning to send a large portion of my used clothes as a parcel to my husband.

But I will arrive in Canada not before late summer.

So, can I already send my things now without paying customs?

Or, can my belongings only arrive with/after me?

Thank you for your kind advice.

Ops, I just now realized that I have posted this topic in the wrong sub-forum.
Can you please move it?

Thanks,

Hey Dina hi!
We didn't hear from you lately. I hope all's well. Have you received your COPR yet?
As for the parcel you want to send I believe it is better to send it as part of your own belongings when you are ready to Land. In general lines, you must list all your personal items, new and old so you would be entitled to have them in Canada after your Landing.
I am sure there would be other members here with more recent experience to guide you properly

Hi Tom

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, as I have told you in the February forum, I received my COPR ca. 5 days after "decision made" :)

Hmm.. Then I will send my belongings few days before I arrive in Canada so that I do not get any troubles with customs.

Thanks,

Congrats. I think I missed the part where you said this! I hope you will have a good life in the Great White North!
Don't forget to make a detailed list of the items you will have, either with you or the ones to follow!
Drop us a line after arrival !

Detailed list means" each and every cloth needs to be listed" or something like "2 boxes of clothes"?

Thanks,

not each and every item, just a "general list", but a little more detailed than 2 box of clothes". Try to list them per category.

Like 3 pairs of shoes, 4 sweaters, 4 pairs pants etc.....

My wife has started to send her stuff. She would get a copy of the customs form she filled out for that and she can present that when she lands.

Hi guys.

How many days would my parcel wait for me to show the customs document received at landing?

I am planning to come to Canada in mid October. But before that, I will be doing a long vacation (6 weeks).
That means, I will not be coming directing from Switzerland to Canada.

So, if I send my parcel to Canada just before my vacation and want to pick it up after landing in Canada, will it still wait there for me?

How many days time will they give me?

Thanks,

dina87

Where are you sending it to and how are you sending it?

To my husband's address in Calgary by DHL.

After landing, I would show the list of importing goods stamped at airport to the customs officer.

Make a list of everything you have sent via DHL and make a list of everything you are taking with you on the flight. You can present those to Customs when you land. My wife did not present any list of the things she sent by surface mail so I'm not so sure just how important that is.
