Does anyone know about obtaining a self starter work permit. My wife operates a dance studio and would like to join me in Canada.

She would operate a dance studio if possible.

are you planning to sponsor your wife for PR as that might well be an easier route ?

This stream probably won't work out for your wife. For the self employed stream, the cultural activities you participate in need to be on a world class level - meaning that you have to have some sort of international achievements or recognition. Based on the information you've provided, she won't qualify. Agreed it would make a lot more sense for you to sponsor her as your spouse.

Thank you both for your insight. I agree, sponsorship is the best option. I have been having getting confirmation from the Canadian authorities that they registered my change in marital status. After I applied for permanent residence I got married. I then notified the Canadian High Commission. They then granted my permanent residence and said I need to be in Canada by May. I have not left for Canada yet as I want them to confirm my marital status and that I can sponsor my wife. Can anyone advise whether my notification of the Canadian High Commission is sufficient? I would really appreciate any help

No - it's certainly not sufficient. You need to return your COPR and notify your visa office that you have gotten married. You must then submit all of the paperwork (including medicals and police certificates) to add your spouse to your application. The visa office will then process your spouse's paperwork. Once that is done, they will re-issue a new COPR for both of you. If you land using the COPR you have now, you will never be able to sponsor your spouse.

Thank you so much!!! I am so worried as the Pretoria High Commission was not sure what to do. Which visa office must I contact?

I really appreciate your help. I presume I will have to start my application from scratch and wait for my profile to be drawn etc?

You need to contact whichever visa office was responsible for processing your application and issuing your COPR. No - you don't go into the draw and start from scratch. You need to move over to the Express Entry section of the forum and ask your questions there and hear from others who have gone through the same experience. This is the wrong section of the forum to be posting these questions.
