Self-Employment and Direct Employment Concern for AEO

Hi all,

Over a period of a year and a half I worked for 8 months as a self-employed IT analyst, then 3 months on contract with a large multi-national and then another 4 months self employed again. Does this count as a year of continuous employment for the purposes of the AEO application? I can prove through invoices and tax returns that I did start self-employment immediately (one week later) after the direct employment contract work. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Hi derbeast,

Just a quick question, Do you have Invoices and Tax returns for the first 8 Months of self Employment and do your Invoices include the description of the Jobs you carried out for your clients.( Although my case is in the Simplified FSW category, I am in the same situation. However, I have worked for over 4 years in an IT Support and Maintainance company before becoming self employed in 2006 and I always write the description of the job I carryout on the Invoices. My payment terms and conditions have always been eitheir by Bank transfer or/and Cheques.)
Although I might be wrong, I do believe that as long as you can prove your self employment beyond ( reasonable) doubts, it should'nt be a problem.

Thanks Bobby,

To answer your question, yes, there is a brief description of work completed on each invoice to the companies. After just speaking with an agent from CIC, she is unsure whether self employment falls under the AEO scheme and said it was not in her jurisdiction to answer this question. At this point this is a far more important question for me to clarify. If anyone could come in on this issue as well it would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks, Derek
