Hi everyone! Some quick questions about the sponsorship evaluation. My hubby is a self employed contractor and has sub contracted his services to a specific company for about 3 yrs but more full time the last few months. He has also done some basement proofing and roofing on the side.. My question is it okay to put 'employed' even though the letter from his current job says he's a SELF employed contractor.. Which he is. I just don't want the officer to be confused. He can't put self employed bc he doesn't have his own business.

Self-employed would be the accurate answer. He does have a business: his work, which he contracts out to one employer. But how does he get paid? Does he keep proper accounts? How is he viewed by the Inland Revenue? I think you might have to add a word of explanation to whatever you put down on the form.

How has he done business "on the side" if he doesn't have his own business? Does he have an HST registration number with the CRA? He should be using this number every time he bills the company he does regular work for, and in this case would be considered self-employed.
