Self Employed count towards Canadian work experience?

Hi All,

I am from the UK and work as an IT server administrator for my UK based company as they have decided to keep me on being based remotely in Canada. I am currently on a temp working holiday visa for 1 year and have opened a Incorporated company in BC to become a contractor for my UK company and invoice them my wages. I will be an employee of my Incorporated company and will be paying taxes in Canada as any Canadian employee.

My Question is as an employee of my Canadian Incorporated company does this count as Canadian Work experience?

Can I count this as points towards my EE application?

Would a year working like this make me eligible for CEC?

Canadian experience means working for someone (company / person) in Canada. Your experience is foreign experience - you just happen to be physically located in Canada while doing it. The fact you've incorporated doesn't make it Canadian work experience.

What you're doing doesn't even require a work permit. Someone could be in Canada as a tourist and do remote work for a UK company while here.

It's foreign work experience.

Hi, i've a bit of a similar question. I'm on an open work permit now after completing my MBA from Canada. After working for 6 months, I started a business and i Inc'ed it. Does this count as self-employment as well? I checked i dont need a LMIA since i'm on an open WP, but i'm not sure if i need to check the "self-employed" box in my EE profile Work History form or not.

Yes, this would count as self employment. Self employment does not count as Canadian work experience under CEC.
