Seeking details/clarity on landing (important)

Hi everyone,

Just trying to clarify a couple things. It's been suggested to me previously that it's absolutely acceptable for my partner (who I am sponsoring) to travel to Canada alone to "land", then just stay a couple days or a week, return back here to New Zealand, for us to properly plan our move which we'll make together a few months later.

I'm just seeking to 100% clarify that this is okay.

What concerns me is how important it has seemed to convince CIC that I intend to move back to Canada too. I do! I absolutely do. We'll be moving together. But a work opportunity may keep me here a few extra months (no more than four months) but I wouldn't want to be away from my partner. So the idea of sending her there on a one week holiday to "land" and get her stamps, then return back here... that sounds great.

I just want to make sure this is normal and okay. I'm worried that her arriving without me could cause issue, and leaving again for a few months would somehow be against the rules.

Thanks in advance for your advice. I urgently need to know this as I have to make a decision regarding this work opportunity.

(my partner's medical expires in February and we expect to have the residency approval by the years end. This job would take me through to early June and we'd immediately make the move after that)

Your plan is completely fine. Read this from the FAQ that SchnookoLoly put together.

The sponsor does not need to be there when the principal applicant(s) land.

It is possible, although I'm not saying probable, that she will be questioned as to why she is landing as a PR of Canada without you...since you [in essence] told CIC that you were both `ready' to move to Canada.

There have been cases where a person was denied landing, because the officer was not convinced that the person was truly moving to Canada.

IMO, it would be best if you could travel with her, because you could both return right away to get things sorted for your permanent move to Canada.

Good luck!

For what it's worth, this is more or less exactly what we did. I landed without my sponsor, who remained in the UK. The only time she was mentioned was to ask me where she was, to which I replied "at home looking after the dog". Absolutely no problems... We eventually moved to Canada about 10 months later.

I can see how it might be a problem if her ticket was one way... but surely a return ticket (and, say, a week spent in Canada) would back up our story. Potentially she could take with her evidence of our planned move a few months later.
