Problem: Stuck in background security screening since many months.

Question: Do folks have suggestions? I’ve raised multiple webforms and called IRCC agents but have been told to just wait.

Program: Federal Skilled Worker - Express Entry (back in 2021)
Details:
COR: USA (however, recently moved to Pakistan)
Passport: Pakistan
Primary VO: Edmonton (Secondary VO: Montreal)

Timeline
Jan 2021: AOR

Dec 2021: Got married
Jan 2022: Counterfoil email but canceled… because I was requested to resubmit docs with spouse, as no longer ‘single’
Feb 2022: Submitted spousal forms including medicals / police certificates
<<<Silence…..>>>
Jan 2023:
Spouse biometrics request received and completed
Feb/Mar 2023: ADR (Form IMM 5669), Updated medicals for both, Updated Police certificates etc.
March 2023: Background verification was re-updated to ‘in progress’
Silence since then. Any thoughts?

Do you or your spouse have any military background or some kind of job that requires long background checks. How is the travel history for both of you? So you did get the PPR email (counterfoil email), but now maybe the delay is due to your move to Pakistan. Mandamus would've been an option if this was the total time on your sole application, but considering you got the counterfoil email prior to your marriage, it just means they need some more time to process your spouse's application. Think it of as like a new application, so it adds "new" processing time.

The best course of action would be to just wait it out cause background checks can't be expedited. Periodically order gcms notes as it will cause the officer to pick up your file again to check its status. Get in touch with local MP of the area you plan to land in. But if you think you can't wait any longer then filing Mandamus would be your last option if you can afford to, financially .

Are you serious about this? "Periodically order gcms notes as it will cause the officer to pick up your file again to check its status" Where are you getting this wrong info from?

I am getting this information from this forum, there are quite a lot people who have reported seeing movement in their files right after ordering GCMS notes. Here are a few threads you can go through them:

https://www.canadavisa.com/canada-i.../does-gcms-note-slow-or-speed-up-file.605498/

let me tell you that this is all bogus information. people assume things and start believing that it's a fact.

any updates?

Bro i also applied my pr through rnip
I'm also stuck on background check security and criminality not started yet
Did you got any update on ur background check?
no…still stuck…let me know if you have any updates and wish you good luck

I am stuck in a similar situation. Stuck since Jan 2023. It's so frustrating.
Only instances I'm aware of where it's taken that long (10+ years) were ones involving refugees later accused of reavailment (see https://www.canadavisa.com/canada-i...tion-and-prs-applying-for-citizenship.333455/ ) - in these it looks to me like IRCC may have been dragging their feet to start a reavailment case, until pushed to start these proceedings in response to mandamus proceedings.

Curious to learn if there are other cases where the delays were for different reasons.

Perhaps random security screening where a foreign gov't became uncooperative...?

My comment that was quoted is regarding delays in citizenship.

But for PR related delays (such as PGP) - perhaps https://www.canadavisa.com/canada-i...-lawyers-talk-in-youtube.868472/post-11031897 may be of some help.
