Hi,

Would they do security checks, etc. before they would give an interview?

Medical Results have been received since July 11.
GCMS notes: "In Progress" since August 9.

Any help would be appreciated!

hey there.......according to the application guide they do the interview first then do the background/criminal check....but my opinion is that they do the check before the interview. i could be wrong but i see alot of ppl when they go to the interview and pass the interview the dont wait long after that once they take the person passport from them.

technically its after you pass interview.

interview pass- eligibility pass

in process means- you are now eligible and hence go through mandatory steps of security/ background check.

this can usually take 2 weeks up 7-8 months maybe more. It depends on how many countries you have stayed in over 6 months.

then comes PPR

then decision made- when they issue COPR

complete- when person lands

i just want to point out that some ppl ecas dont go to in process at all....once you do the interview it got straight to decision made when they are finish with your application that is why i say they do the background check before the interview

as i was told always after you passed interveiw is goign to backround checks,it can not go never before the interveiw the backround check, this embassy and MP told me .

Updating on eCAS is different thing which VO should but sometime they don't(very few visa officers). Everybody goes IN PROCESS at one stage if no interview required. And if interview required then after the interview.

Sometimes background/security is very quick for some people.

But your eligibility is not completed yet then definitely visa officer not going to request Background/security. because he/she might doesn't even need it if eligibility fails. They don't want to waste their time unnecessary on these checks until they are sure you are eligible. they don't care about applicant's time.

They had 8-9 months to do these checks for me before interview. but they did not. After interview they requested new medical and RCMP fingerprints which I knew they would need that because I saw that in GCMS 6 months before interview. Then they put me IN PROCESS after interview.

Thank you all very much for your input...:)

So because it says in-progress, they have skipped the interview and have began security / background check?

As for GCMS notes

I think they may have started the security checks, because, although they tend to block out details for the security section, they removed "Not Started" from Old value and just left it blank now. And this change is the most recent in list, and came after medicals were passed.

Again, "Not Started" was removed...

Because we had such a short courtship (5 months) before marrying, I thought they would give interview...He has clean record, and has only travelled to 1 country where we eloped. He does have two brothers working for army, and one has just entered army for training, and not sure if this will delay or help our file....

And in the NOTES: "No CSCD not entered. Photos without info on the back. Case will be referred." This was entered by CPC/CIC, not VO, on the day my sponsorhip was approved.

Any more input would be of great help...thanks in advance... :D

no - it only means that they have received the medical results and they have matched it to your file - which is a good thing of course! but it doesn't mean anything about security or backgrounds checks.

Im confused...if they do the security/background checks after the interview...how can they have an interview that day and get the visa the same day as the interview? ???

In some cases, they already have made their decision and start the security/background checks before the interview (just like I thought I understood in the GCMS notes!).

Interview was just a formality I believe....We are praying that he can land in December....

Al the best!!

That's what I was thinking too...I was just wondering because as of the 13th of October it will be five months since our interview and I was just wondering what could be going on with our case...no word about a decision or anything...I did make a case specific e-mail and they just told me that the app was pending further review...I have to wonder what this means ::)

What is the processing time for your VO?
