Hi everyone,

I sent my application of PR renewal in Feb 2014, and it was tranfered to secondary review (I have like 750-770 days, can't remember the exact number). It's been more than 15 months till now.

I left Canada after I sent my application and now without the new PR card, I can't go back.

Should I apply for a PRTD outside of Canada? I heard it's kinda risky for the applicants under secondary review. Or should I just stay outside of Canada and wait? But there's no maximum timeframe for secondary review, who knows how long it's gonna take.

Can anyone help and give me some suggestions? I really don't what my best move is now ???. Thank you all.

I think there are two options and waiting isn't one of them.

You can apply for a PR TD and I don't know what the risky part of it is. You already applied for a PR card, and if you meet the RO's there shouldn't be a problem. Staying out of the country (Canada) makes it worse - at least that's how I see it.

If you got a passport from a visa-exempt country you could try to board a plane back to Canada. This is risky, and I would not really recommend it. But my friend is going to try this on Monday. The only issue here is the airline.

Not sure what to tell you but staying out of the country makes it worse. In my eyes the best thing to do is getting a PR TD.

Thank you so much for your reply. The problem is that I'm studying in university abroad and I can't go back to Canada just yet.

As for the risky part, I read once in the forum that applying for a PRTD when under secondary review can lead to refusal to the PR application. Have you applied PRTD before? do you know if it has a time limit? It's single entry or multiple entry?

Thank you!

Sorry, but I don't have an answer to that. Just don't stay away for too long.

No, I never applied for a PR TD. Last year I crossed the US-Canada border w/o any issues.

Are you talking about PR application or PR card application - that's a different story. And if you're talking about PR card renewal I can't see why an application for a PR TD has any effect.

But, since I am not the smart cookie here do not take my word for granted.

In your case PRTD also may take more time?
