Secondary Review can take up to 24 more months?

Hi all,

They received my application for renewing my expired permanent resident card on March 25, 2015.
They started processing my application on May 1, 2015.
They sent me a letter on May 1, 2015 saying that it went into secondary review.
When I call them they say that a secondary review can take up to 24 more months...

What are your experiences how long secondary review takes?
[They don't seem to need additional documents from me. When I call they say they have everything they need.]
Any hints how I can find out more or speed this up?
Would paying an immigration lawyer to enquire change anything?

I would like to travel in December.

How long do Canadian embassies in European countries usually take to issue a travel document?
Are three weeks too risky?

Thanks

Check the following topic on this forum to get more information about the secondary review cases:

There is no way to find out how long secondary review will take. It's case by case. And you may never know why your application was sent for SR.

Paying an immigration lawyer won't change anything, that would be a waste of money.

PRTD issuing times vary widely from country to country. Could be a few days, could be weeks...

Thanks everyone for your answers.

I am still stuck in waiting limbo in my secondary review. My secondary review was probably triggered because I had been only slightly over accumulative 730 days in Canada in the previous 5 years.

At this point - this month - I have actually just reached 730 consecutive days inside of Canada. Should I just send a new application based on that?

Thanks

I very much doubt that would help. It might even complicate or confuse the situation.

I know it's not what you want to hear, but I had an application sent for secondary review a few years ago for no apparent reason, & I had WAY over 730 days (around 1200, IIRC) in Canada. The card eventually arrived around 9 months later, I think.

If the new 730 days period includes days that CIC doubt from the initial 730 days submitted unlikely to make a difference. If its a brand new set for the 730 days with nil carry over days days in dispute then its should be straightforward. Since you don't know which days CIC doubt (you may have a good idea based on your declared dates and travels) its a gamble. If it makes you feel better and in more control of the situation go for it you have nothing to lose and its only 50 bucks. One thing I've suggested SR applicants do is get their GCMS notes and potentially see what the issue is...I don't recall anyone doing this even on the expansive SR thread.
