Yeah, I was told that I couldn't even start at supply teaching, I would have to be a volunteer.. basically do student teaching all over again! No thanks.. I'll probably start at a temp agency and see what happens. I have a regular English degree so I may try to get into the writing/publishing/editing field.

Don't hang too much hope on the temp agencies either. I thought at least THAT would be easy, but not so much. I went to A****1, had a nice interview with one of their reps after spending like an hour filing an online application. He said he was impressed; that their typical clients were less well spoken, less educated and had weaker resumes. He promised to send me an online test of my "office skills" via email which I didn't get. Since then he has not replied to any of my emails, taken my calls, or found me a temporary position. Apparently, each rep has hundreds of clients to manage and I think they don't have that many requests from businesses.

i am like relying on these temp agencies i know a couple in the US who are up in canada as well... i know career websites wont get me anywhere!

Congrats. What kind of work do you do?
On my job search front...I got a call for an interview last night for a job I applied for on Monday. The interview is later today. Fingers crossed it has a reasonable salary (and that it starts in late September as I already have a trip to France planned)!

Best of luck! If you get it, put in a good word for me, lol :P Kidding!

It was crap. They advertised as a full time position needed immediately and they're a start up with practically no students. The fellow doing the interview didn't seem to know I was coming, hadn't read my resume or cover letter (but read the copies I brought WHILE asking me questions), and his pronunciation was so poor I could barely understand him. Oh well, at least now I have Canadian interview experience!

Well if they're willing to hire and pay you, might as well give it a shot! You can always put it on a resume.

do you know if with Permanent Residency Status we can apply for government positions?

I believe it depends on the position. From the Federal public service site "for most public service jobs which are open to the public, people residing in Canada and Canadian citizens living in other countries will be eligible to apply." I suspect most municipal and provincial jobs are open to permanent residents.

I have a friend who has PR status and he works in the municipal level of government, not sure how it works for provincial or federal however.
