SDS Processing times

Hi all,

I have applied for Study permit under SDS for Jan 2021 intake,
Application submission: 11Nov 2020
Biometrics: 3Dec 2020
They have written that usually it takes 20 days to process SDS file, but may take longer in some cases,
Can anyone provide information regarding their actual processing times, because my college semester deferment date is coming closer, so i have to plan for that,
should i go for deferment or wait for visa decision?

When is the last date to defer? Best would be if you can ask the uni to give you an extension on that. People have been waiting since March and haven't got a decision yet, while there are people who applied in October and got a decision. So no one can predict who's gonna get a decision when.

Does your Uni require a fully approved study permit for you to be able to attend lectures?
Just check with them about this because mine and several other universities allow students to begin classes with just the study permit "application" proof I.e you have to show that you have submitted your application before xyz date. They should ideally let you continue with just the application proof as long as your lectures are online. Once they shift to offline classes (maybe next summer or fall), thats when you'll need to show them a fully approved study permit. Just talk to them first.

There are lot of SDS applications pending from September and October and before too so its difficult to say when it'll get processed. I have seen some September SDS applicants get their passport request. It's really ambiguous at this point.

20 days my foot. I applied on March 2nd which makes it Day 387.
They've updated the processing time from 20 days to 8 weeks the to 32 and I'm on Week 40, going to hit week 41 soon.

Ps: Chances are you'll get your visa before Feb, March or April applicants.
