Hello
Suppose I am unable to pay one-year full fees and I want to be able to pay my tuition fees semester-wise.
I am not applying for loan. My parents are sponsoring my education.
  • Should I apply through non-sds?
  • What should I do if I want to apply for a student visa under non - SDS?
  • Does applying through non-sds mean that the agent do not get the commission? Can agent apply through non-sds or do I have to do it on my own?
I have applied to canadian colleges for graduate certificate programs and have received LOAs from two colleges. I have applied through IDP agent. I'm eligible under SDS by all requirements.

1. There is nothing called 'Non-SDS'. Its either SDS study permit or a Regular study permit.
2. Visa authorities don't ask for any fee payment. They just want an unconditional acceptance letter from a eligible institution. But the college doesn't give you a Letter of Acceptance without paying atleast 1 sem fee.
3. This is nowhere related to your agent getting a commission.
4. You just have to apply for a study permit. If you upload specific documents and meet certain criteria, your file gets processed under SDS automatically. If not, will be considered under Regular study permit.
Btw, you are saying that you have received LoA from 2 colleges..does that mean you paid fees to both the colleges? Or is it just the offer letter that you received from 2 clgs?

Should I go for the visa process with out paying the 1 year fee? If my collage is not asking for the full fee in advance.

●The agent will get his commission anyway from the college. It has nothing to do with you paying 1 year or just 1 sem fee. He gets his commission as and when you pay to the clg.
● Actually, you can apply for a student visa without paying even a semester's fee if you have an Unconditional Letter of Acceptance from a College/University and sufficient financial proof. But the thing is, no college or university will issue an unconditional LoA without you paying atleast a semester's fee.
● If you pay just 1 sem fee you won't be considered under SDS. For SDS you need to pay 1 year/2 sem fee in advance. And generally this would be mentioned in the college offer letter, that if a student wants to be considered under SDS he/she needs to pay xyz amount or just abc amount if he/she is willing to apply through regular study permit route.
● Any college which is a DLI will usually ask for a full year fee IF the student wants to go with SDS. Or just the registration or 1st sem fee for regular study permit route students.
