What are the implications of the Federal Worker Strike announced on the 18th of April 2023. I have applied to Humber College for a 2 year Program for May 2023 intake through the SDS application process. With a possible delay imminent, what should be my course of action following the news of this strike that will hinder my arrival to Canada. Would appreciate if someone could guide me on the steps I need to take for a deferral to September 2023 intake and what and how I need to communicate to IRCC for the same. Thank you.

Application Timeline so far:
Application Launched - 3rd April 2023
Confirmation Received - 3rd April 2023
Biometric Request Letter - 4th April 2023
Biometrics Completed - 11th April 2023

None, no impact on the timeline of temporary residents applications. Only PR and immigration programs will be affected.
Btw, i am waiting for a study permit and sowp restoration from inside Canada, and it’s 7 weeks already and no answer,

Given processing is 8-10 weeks without any strike, you will likely will not get a response by May. SDS haven’t been processing in two weeks in many years.

Considering a deferral as my next course of action, what steps do I need to take... Or should I just let the application process normally and get a deferral LOA from Humber and provide them with it if asked or upload as soon as I receive it

Once you have deferral LOA, update your profile and send update through webform.

How did you know that?

That is not correct. Temporary stay application will be delayed, according to the IRCC official website:

"There will be limited capacity during a strike, so delays in processing are expected. This includes delays to applications currently being prioritized."

Well, at least it's a controllable situation, not another virus, I hope this strike is over in a few weeks, as Treasury Boards of Canada has no other choice, but to actually make concessions to the workers.

I read the demands of strikers, one of them was “cost of living”… how about us? After 2 years of sending applications and so many delays?! Don’t we have a family? Don’t we live here? Do they have a minimum understanding of how many
People and their families are suffering?

I have exactly the same problem with you but I am equally confused if I should defer the admission or if I should wait

i am in similar situation. registered for summer course to finish my study after a break, submitted my student permit extension application before it expires and strike happened. would this mean i have to drop the course and delay the start of my course until my study permit is approved? i am so stressed right now☹️

Waiting for a decision. Enrolled for May intake. College also not providing online classes. Ircc not giving any decision. There is no seats available for next 2 intake. Its a mess. Unnecessary stress, uncertainty, disappointment… I think its time to withdraw…

Hey guys, please use this as motivation and hope that your applications are still being processed and you all will get a decision soon. After posting my query here my application has had these updates. But I recommend everyone make arrangements for deferral or withdrawal in the case of delays beyond a certain time frame.
