Hi everyone!
It's the first time I submit my study permit application from China. At first I didn't know letter of explanation is for my study plan so I just explain two questions very shortly: why you want to study in Canada and what ties you have in China. Afterwards, I webformed my one page study plan with materials that prove my purpose and tie. Hope it will go well.

Any update?

Sadly, I got a refusal letter. The reason is purpose of visit not consistent. I requested GCMS right away and prepared for the second try. SOP is important, make it strong and make it convincing!
sad to know that, well try better next time.

Hey @Pravee_S! :) As promised, I'm letting you and everyone who is interested know that we have received our GCMS notes from the IRCC 10 days ago. It took them 70 days to arrive.

I have to say that the notes are nothing like we expected. First of all, there were some notes, all right. Secondly, our greatest fear has realized: the real reason for our refusal is my program of studies. The officer called my desire to get a second degree "unreasonable" (the word that he or she used 3 times in the notes), expressed doubts that my prime purpose of visiting Canada is study and said they believed that I already have a similar level of education, extensive work experience and a huge gap in education, which all makes them doubt that I really need the second education.

We feel very disoriented right now because I was under the impression that while, yes, we did not explain the reasons why we will come back to China, I explained the reasons I need this particular degree in much details. The thing is, my desire to study is genuine. The university, the degree, the major I chose - all have a specific purpose that has nothing to do with immigration to Canada. So, we are very very puzzled now.

Of course, we will re-apply. However, it will take us some major thinking as to how to tackle this. Not to mention, I have been waiting for a deferral decision from my university for 2 months now. Nerve-wracking, honestly!

Hey! Hadn't you received GCMS notes from CBSA prior? Were the notes from IRCC different? That would be very weird....

Well, at least now you have pinpointed the exact aspect of your application to tackle! Go get them!!!

Hello @parrots , thanks for let us know, much appreciated! It is weird that the notes requested from CBSA is different from that of IRCC. I have applied for both and waiting.

Good that you waited for the notes from IRCC before you reapplied and now that you know the exact reasons you should be able to tackle it on your LOE better. Go for it you have been our cheer leader and you will get it this time for sure.. Good Luck!
