Well sorry to be the bearer of bad news but actually, an officer takes about 16-28 minutes to review a study permit application.

Quotes from an immigration lawyer :

In 2019, it took the average IRCC officer 16-28 minutes to process initial study permit applications.

Of this, 3-10 minutes was spent on Pre-Assessment, which includes intake, file-creation, pre-screening, biometric enrolment, manual inputting of up-front medical results and adding information about co-op work permits, if applicable.

  1. 7 minutes was spent on Eligibility, which includes assessing eligibility and verifying documents.
  2. 6 minute was spent on Admissibility, which includes assessing admissibility, file transfer, medicals, and background checks.
  3. 6 minutes was spent on Decision, which includes drafting and sending an approval or refusal.

1-2 minutes was spent on Post-Decision, which includes printing visas in passports if required.
This is interesting

Hey @naohFiona! How are you? Any updates on your profile? 15 weeks and total silence on our end :( Please, let me know when you get your decision as there are only three of us February applicants still waiting, you, us and @Izaz. And I can't imagine what it must be like for those still waiting from January and 2022..

Same with you. I just updated my LOA via web form because I was supposed to enroll the May Intake. I had to request a deferral to Sept term.

Hello Parrots, I got a reply on 26 May from the web form that I submitted on 18 May to update my LOA. Nothing new other than that:( However, I am trying to enjoy my life now instead of checking and worrying about it every day. Hey, don't be upset. Let's take advantage of it as we get more time to prepare ourselves for a brand new life:) I will definitely share with you if any significant progress. ;)

Hey there!

Thanks for your reply and comforting words. My country is not eligible for SDS so I have applied through non SDS route. I chose to not take an upfront medical and wait for a medical request. It has been 4 weeks since biometrics and 6 weeks since submission and still haven’t received any updates. Has there been any progress with your application?

Does processing time count from the day of biometrics or from when the submission happened?
Hello friend. I hope you are alright.

Did you get your PPR?

Hello Parrots, I hope you are well.

I've been reading the entire posts for three days. I read every single post. I hope you and the others who have the same situation as yours will get their PPR very soon.

I also applied for my study visa through non SDS.

My timeline is:
Application submission date: April 18, 2023
Biometrics done date: April 27, 2023
Biometrics update date on my GCKey: May 12, 23
The eligibality review started a few days after my biometrics was updated on my account.
The processing time is 6 weeks.

No update yet.

SDS application from India.
Applied 21 May
Biometrics updated 26 May
Original Passport Request 03 Jun

I am a 33yo male with a 10 year study gap. I finished my bachelors in 2012 with a 8.17/10 CGPA. My IELTS score was 8.5/9. Going for a Masters program at Ryerson in Fall 2023. I did everything on my own - from college applications to visa application. I have a virgin passport.
I applied on the new portal since forms scare me.
I would love to help anyone if they have any questions for me. :)

Hey @naohFiona! :) Thank you so much for your reply! I really appreciate it as sometimes it feels like we're all alone and there are no more people left still waiting for their decisions since February. Thank you also for your positive energy and encouragement! Maybe it is just what I need as, to tell you the truth, my own motivation has been almost completely drained. Let's hope for the best! :)

Hey @MTA4142! :) Thank you so much for your post and great wishes! I hope you've found the conversations on this forum helpful and encouraging. Please, feel free to ask any questions related to your application. I'd be happy to help in any way I can!

Are you a single applicant? Which country did you apply from and to which program in Canada? Your timeline seems OK for non-SDS stream. Good luck to you!

Thank you @zen3989 for sharing your story and timeline! :) You've gotten your decision incredibly fast and it is great to see that SDS works for a great majority of people this year, indeed! Congratulations on your approval! This is an inspiring news! :)

We have similar cases in a way that we both have a huge study gap and IELTS score of 8.5/9. But I am going for a second BA degree, which makes my application rare and complex. I am also applying with my husband and our SDS timeline is a seemingly never-ending wait. Anyways, hope we'll get our decision eventually. Good luck to you! All the best! :)

Thank you for being ready to help everyone. I really appreciate it.

Yeah, I applied only for my own visa no spouse or any other family members. I got admitted into a thesis-based masters of science in applied computer science at the university of manitoba.

The full tuition fee of the entire two years of my degree is 34k CAD. I will not pay for it. My two supervisors will pay for it. I applied from Afghanistan. I hope my country of citizenship doesn't have a negative impact on the outcome of my application.

Also, my supervisor wrote a very detailed letter to IRCC in which he explained the project, my tasks and the source of funding he is paying me.

Regards,

Hey @MTA4142! Your application seems to be strong enough. Personally for me, there was only one weak point on our first application to Canada - not a fully-explained study plan. In case your supervisor takes on that blow and provides an in-depth explanation of your study program, that should work fine. The only thing left is proving your strong ties back to your home country and explaining your career opportunities there. Afghanistan should not be a problem in itself as long as your personal story is well presented and satisfies all the requirements for the study permit. Good luck to you! :)
