Both my husband's and mine applications were update on April 19. My Biometrics was changed from "In progress" to "Complete" and my husband's Biometrics was changed from "Not started" to "In progress". However, I've been wondering whether this update is a genuine one and is specific to our application or is an automated one and was done to all SP applications precisely on April 19 when the IRCC went on strike. Many people have also reported their profiles being updated on April 19. Have you heard anything about this mystery update?
Can anyone else confirm or deny my theory?
Other than that, we'll be completing our Week 10 of waiting tomorrow despite the fact that the official SP processing time is 7 weeks now (of course, not to mention SDS). @Hannan009 and many other people have already been waiting for over 12 weeks, so your record of 9 is officially broken

Yes, @Hannan009 it might be so. It really doesn't seem like our applications were really opened and looked at. It might have been just a technical update of the system. I know it's just a feeling, but it feels like our applications are stuck in there for indefinite time
Hey cheer up i also lost hope on my file when i was on my 8th week but outta nowhere i got my PPR in 9th ... they are not shadow updates but they are just updating what already was done on your file weeks ago. For me personally i was stuck on BVL and didnt receive my PPR for 6 weeks... you'll get the confirmation soon dont worry its just getting delayed a bit coz of strike but on positive end the temporary employees hired by IRCC are asked to process nearly 80 files each day and thats quite a significant number of files, i saw many people get thier visa in last few days even after the strike... This is to “NOT” allow the accumulation of backlog due to IRCC strike because these 3 countries usually have the highest number of applications under processing at any given time. However, this doesn’t mean that applications from other countries are not being processed."

Thanks a lot @ridhamp00! Thank you for your encouragement and support! Yes, this is emotionally draining. I also want to believe that April 19 update wasn't an empty one and it actually did mean that the IRCC opened our file and moved it along, but I also know that even with an update, they may perfectly drag our application for another 10 weeks. Yes, your BVL / PPR gap proves this point as normally they should come together on the same day. I've also heard about the temporary IRCC employees processing 80 applications a day, but I'm not sure whether it is a good thing. I mean, how much time do they spend actually reading all LOEs thoroughly and gong through all the documents well? It is crucial for our application, for example, that they take the time to actually get into the details of it all and not just toss it away after a brief consideration of the surface facts (second BA degree, age, education gap). We've been through one refusal already and prepared a very strong application the second time. However, in case of the second refusal, in the current situation, we wouldn't even know for sure is it our work poorly done or just the IRCC rushed our application without giving it a fair chance of careful consideration. So many questions right now, and wait for just one answer.
Well sorry to be the bearer of bad news but actually, an officer takes about 16-28 minutes to review a study permit application.

In 2019, it took the average IRCC officer 16-28 minutes to process initial study permit applications.
Of this, 3-10 minutes was spent on Pre-Assessment, which includes intake, file-creation, pre-screening, biometric enrolment, manual inputting of up-front medical results and adding information about co-op work permits, if applicable.
- 7 minutes was spent on Eligibility, which includes assessing eligibility and verifying documents.
- 6 minute was spent on Admissibility, which includes assessing admissibility, file transfer, medicals, and background checks.
- 6 minutes was spent on Decision, which includes drafting and sending an approval or refusal.
1-2 minutes was spent on Post-Decision, which includes printing visas in passports if required.
