Thanks a Ton !! :)

Thank you very much!

I do really appreciate your help.

I assume that if we get admission in school in Canada on 11TH Sept onwards ---He will be in year 6 (Grade 6)
And if we get admission in school in Canada on or before 10th Sept (DOB -10TH SEPT) -----he will be in year 5 (Grade 5)

Much appreciated.

Qorax

Hi Qorax, thanks for this informative piece. Actually I have a young teen (14 yrs) and we are hoping to eventually get our PR visa while he is still able to benefit from secondary education. My biggest fear however is that of bullying. In my country we do not have this problem but I am aware that in many north American schools it is a major problem. I will not be able to live with myself if my son is being bullied in our new land to the point of his getting suicidal. Is bullying a big problem in Canadian schools? Are there provinces where children are more subjected to bullying than others?

Thanks for your input.

Currently it's not an issue at all... I don't find any in my kid's school - neither my friends reported any with their children. Here is what the stats say:

How Frequent is Bullying?
In Canada, studies suggest that roughly 6% of students aged 12 to 19, report bullying others on a weekly basis, 8% report that they are victims of bullying weekly, and 1% report that they are both victimized and bully others on a weekly basis (Volk, Craig, Boyce and King, 2003; Rivers and Smith, 1994; Haynie et. al., 2001). Bullying surveys also indicate that many more boys than girls report being victims of bullying and almost all boys named male peers as the aggressors (Totten, Quigley and Morgan, 2004).

Ref: http://www.publicsafety.gc.ca/res/cp/res/2008-bp-01-eng.aspx

Thus, even the stats suggest that bullying is not rampant in Canadian Schools.

Excellent Qorax, you have explained everything in such detail, which hopefully should make it much easy for us , when it comes to admit our children to the Canadian schools. Keep up your wonderful posts.

Thanx agin Qorax. This is reassuring and I must say strengthens my gut feeling that Canada is where we should migrate to. Keep up the good work.
