Schedule A - Some questions

I had got an ITA and submitted my application only about a week back. Today, I received a message from CIC requesting Schedule A. I have checked Schedule A, and most questions seem to be similar to the information I had entered in the application.

Is this normal getting a request for Schedule A or had I missed out on something when submitting my application?

Should this form be filled by hand or on the computer?

Also, I had a query regarding Question 7. Give the number of years of school you successfully completed for each of the following levels of education. I am not sure what to answer for Elementary/Primary School and Secondary/High School. I am from India, and we are in school until Class 12 and then college starts. How do I distinguish until when I was in Primary School and when High School began?

In Canada, Primary Schooling is till Grade 10 and High Schooling is till grade 12

Ah, well there are some small variations from province to province, but usually grades K-6 are "elementary/primary" and grades 7-12 "secondary". Secondary can be broken down in to grades 7-9 as "junior high school" and grades 10-12 as "senior high school."

Sometimes it is simplified to K-8 as elementary and 9-12 as High school.

So to the OP - you can see it's not clear-cut in Canada, and there is no expectation that foreign education systems will conform to Canada's. So whereever your system separates the "little kids" from the "big kids" - that's primary and secondary : )

I'm from India. I have always filled grade 9-12 (4 years) as high school (secondary school) in all my dealings with CIC - study permits, work permits, PR applications, etc., and have never faced an issue. I always put down the name of the diploma certificate granted in my case as CBSE- AISSCE (All India Senior School Certificate) - of course this might be different for you depending on what board system you studied under.
I also know people who only put down 11-12 (2 years) as thei secondary education, and it worked out fine for them too.

I'm surprised that you are being asked this question in the first place. Do you recall what information you had provided under Education history? Just reconfirm that data for CIC. If you had provided school level education (which is strictly unnecessary if you have college credentials) reconfirm the same number of years in this Schedule A.

You can possibly break it into 2 halves. Keep it Primary till Grade 8 (or 10) and Secondary from 9 (or 11) to 12 and also provide the respective years of completion for those particular grades. Explain to the officer in a short note that you aren't completely clear about how the grades are divided in India and have tried your best to provide accurate and meaningful information.

Should KG or Nursery be counted? Or should I count from Class 1, in which case I would say 10 years in primary school and 2 years in High School?
I am from the CBSE system as well, so AISSCE would apply for Class 10.

I hadn't provided my schooling details in Education history. I thought we were supposed to start from college.

I don't think it is usual to receive a Schedule A request within a week but that, in itself, shouldn't be a worry. Too early for them to have processed anything substantial in your application.

Either way is fine. The instructions are provided on the form itself.

A couple of more things have emerged though:

1. In Question 8 regarding Personal History, it mentions that if you were outside your country, indicate your status in that country. Should I add lines and mention if I was visiting some foreign country as a tourist for 1 or 2 months?

2. I had written a Letter of Explanation, but had forgotten to mention about one substantial credit in my Bank statement of 6 months (which was immediately followed by a debit of the same amount but to another party). After submitting, nothing could be done. Should I take this opportunity to add an additional page and explain the transaction?

Yes. Try and not provide any new information in Schedule A that you hadn't provided in your earlier application. Balance that with being completely truthful.

Not with the Schedule A request. Either wait for CIC to question you about that or send them an explanation using the CSE route (https://secure.cic.gc.ca/enquiries-renseignements/canada-case-cas-eng.aspx).

It seems that they started requesting Schedule A to a large number of people immediately...I got the request within 4 days of submission/ AOR in September, and I think several others did as well..
Usually the request comes for those who have said yes to both the visa rejection questions (which is aLOT of people), but several others have also been asked...
So we don't know on what basis they ask for it anymore.

Thanks. Got the Schedule A figured out.

Guess I will have to leave the explanation for when they question me. I checked the link for CSE but that specifies that it should be used if my application has taken an inordinate processing time, which is not the case for me yet.

I did say Yes to both the visa rejection questions, so that could be the criteria.

getting schedule A request is a bad sign ? even I had visa rejection in past but I am going to answer those scary questions YES and provide LOE . So if they request schedule A , is that a sign of rejection ?
