Hi everyone,

On the detailed guide online it says this form (IMM 5669) only needs to be filled out by (direct quote):
  • The principal applicant (the person being sponsored, including those under 18);
    and

  • all dependent children aged 18 years or older (whether accompanying you to Canada or not).
I am Canadian, my wife (the principal applicant) is Brazilian, and we have no kids. So, reading this, it seems like we only need to fill out one form for her. But, on the form itself is says (direct quote):

"The principal applicant, his or her spouse or common-law partner, if applicable, and all dependent children aged 18 years or older listed in the application for permanent residence must complete their own copy of this form."

Her spouse is me... this seems like conflicting information. Should I be filling out one of these forms too?

Thanks for your help.

No. These forms are used in many different streams of immigration and that's why they tend to have generalized instructions (constant use of "if applicable").

You would have to fill it out if she were the principal applicant and you were added to her application (for example for Express Entry), meaning if you were both immigrating and she had a spouse added to her application. It even says, "...listed in the application for permanent residence."

As you're sponsoring her as part of the family class, only she has to fill it out.
