you should receive the "dicover canada" book within 2 months. it took 6-11 months for your file to start processing. it will take at least another 6 months for you to be notified for the test. after the test, it will take 2-4 months for them to send you the notice to take oath. the above process assuming everything is fine, no RQ is issued to you. many applicants are receiving RQ these days without any reason. it will significantly delay your application and make the waiting time much longer.

what does it mean RQ and why do they ask it? we've bee living in Canada all three years, how can we prove it?

they ask you to provide supporting documents to prove your residence in canada. eg. notice of tax assessments, monthly credit card statements, house ownership or mortgage statements, record of employment, ohip report, cbsa report etc. a significant percentage of applicants were asked for those documents to prove residence.

suin, don't be misled by his timeline. his file was transferred in Nov 2011, his application was likely submitted 6-9 months before. his total processing time is more than 16 months.

I got my acknowledgment letter few days back.

Mailed- June, 24th 2012
Acknowledgement- July,27th 2012 (Recvd letter of acknowledgement & Discover Canada book Sep 02nd 2012)

Does that mean all my documents are ok?
Any one else applied same month/date?
How much time it take to test?

i applied in october 2011 and still waiting for the test. i would say your test would not come earlier than july 2013.

why has it been so long? have you receive RQ?

to tst: it all depends on CIC. recently they issued more RQs than ever before. nobody knows the criteria for issuing the RQ.

to Suin: i did not receive RQ this time, but i guess citizenship application is receiving more scrutiny and some cic offices were closed. that is probably the reason it took longer time to process the application than before. now the cic official processing time for citizenship is 21 months. it could even be longer.

cic first targeted family sponsorship immigration, then federal skilled worker and investor immigrants, now i think it is citizenship being targeted. just looking at the delays faced for PR card renewal, you would know how far this citizenship delay could go. now the cic is even planning to ask candidates to submit english test results for citizenship application, the process could become more complicated for the applicants.
